Delighted to announce that my long-awaited paper on the NZ Thesis Project is published (& is open access)! Deborah and I worked hard to write this because we would love for all academic libraries to link their data to Wikidata - this tells you why and how

Pay attention, Aotearoa New Zealand, because our lying weasel of a Health Minister won't be sharing this new information with those who have a need and have a right to know...

Speechless
In case you've seen the story about “grok now only generates images for paid users”, it's untrue. Apparently everyone just reported it because… it was what grok told them 🤦🏼

No, Grok hasn’t paywalled its deepfake image feature

X is no longer just a shitty nazi social media site. Its a machine for generating child pornography. Its output is illegal in Aotearoa. Shouldn't the machine be as well?
Every day, thousands of women and children are victimized by people on X using the Grok chatbot to generate scantily clad and naked photos of them.

It’s time for governments to take action. Elon Musk’s X should have been banned long ago. They don’t have an excuse to delay any longer.

Re-sharing for the new year, which is also an election year! If you agree, help us out by emailing your local MP asking why Labour and National have not yet signed this letter or committed to regulating AI deployment in NZ. #nzpol
We’ve published an Open Letter calling on NZ leaders to deliver risk-based AI regulation & a national oversight body. AI has huge potential, but harms (deepfakes, gendered abuse, bias) are real and rising. Read the Letter (and sign it if you agree!) #nzpol

Oh FFS. My surgery has sent a message about the ManageMyHealth breach which I have to login to MMH to read but their login with a onetime code system isn’t working. Anyone else in #Dunedin able to tell me what Maori Hill message says?

I'm beginning to think we should all have a whip-around and see if we can pay the hackers to let us know whose records they have? Seems it'd be quicker than waiting for MMH

No, no, it’s ok that they’re on the white nationalist site with an on-demand CSAM generator because *they’ve blocked those parts and are pretending they aren’t there*

They’re upset at *other* people noticing that they’re still in the Nazi CSAM bar. They have a blindfold on! Can’t you see that!?
how the fuck can any journalist remain on this fucking website.

Manage My Health continues to be a case study in how not to handle a security breach.

For example, the lack of direct comms with users of the platform (still), and a number of exploitable issues that can be checked with basic tools still not fixed.

other people should do this too. if wedd wants the internet to be safer for kids, she has to explain what she plans to do about *companies* producing and disseminating child pornography and nonconsensual deepfakes *while her party leaders enthusiastically use that platform*.
ruining catherine wedd's holidays by asking her what her member's bill about banning social media will do about social media *operators* like elon musk producing and distributing childporn and non-consensual deepfakes.
