Long-haul truckers used to appear as disembodied voices coming out of our TV set, because the drivers on the nearby highway were powering their CBs maybe a little over the FCC guidelines. I recall once telling my mother that the TV told me it needed gas. (Well, it did.)

I'm unclear on what one degree is -- does it mean knowing someone personally, or knowing someone personally who knows them personally? If it's the latter, I'm one degree with Weird Al, which is not the only notable person I can say that about, but the only one I choose to name drop.

I agree, although I have heard it said that Pennsylvania is Pittsburgh on one end, Philadelphia on the other end, and Alabama in the middle. I've spent a fair amount of time in the middle of Pennsylvania, but not Alabama, so I can't verify the comparison.
