Ok I will talk about baseball here instead. I co-write The Windup with Ken Rosenthal on The Athletic. It’s a newsletter.

To be fair, I posted this when he had allowed just one solo home run.

(It feels a little like piling on now)

Say this for Clayton Kershaw: he has fully committed to his transformation into Dodgers reliever

Well sure but we can't forget that ever since Stella Got Her Groove Back, steroid use has plummeted in baseball

It feels like these ads were written by Nolan Ryan himself, as a false flag to prove that analytics are pure nonsense.

Since baseball players started wearing batting gloves, autism is up by many thousands of percentage points.

Ever since they lowered the mound, climate change has been ramping up at an alarming rate.

Since the invention of the DH, church attendance has plummeted.

In the roughly 80+ years since the invention of batting helmets, America has been involved in one world war.

That’s the same amount of world wars they participated in over the previous 160+ years.

So batting helmets cause a ~100% increase in world wars.

Just a lil idea for the next google ai ad.

Somewhere between zero and four teams will advance to the next round of the playoffs today/tonight.

I watch … I dunno probably somewhere between 400-500 baseball games a year, and yet: I am so amped about watching four more today.

Look at where Vladimir Guerrero Jr.'s body is when his back foot last loses contact with the ground:

I guessed it on my zeroeth guess. Was just humming those two names to the tune of a Gang of Youths song just before I read this.

I’m literally just glad that even one person gets the joke

This man is encouraging his grandsons Tom and Dick to follow their dreams of a musical comedy career.

(this joke is for the, like, one 65 year old man on bluesky who appreciates a good Smothers Brothers reference, and sees the resemblance.)

Sooooo the Blue Jays look inevitable right now.

I know that can change at the drop of a … fly ball, or whatever. But this ALDS has been a statement.

Haha I don’t think you’re a jerk. This is just the nth example of “without context, jokes on line are often impossible to differentiate from real things people say” (sorry I missed that you were joking, tho)

There is a link right there in the post you’re replying to, John!

I wrote this out a couple years ago, how I would word the rule, but I can’t find it.

It’s doable, though, and I hope it happens soon

(I say this knowing full well that we literally JUST saw the weakness of replay — Pete Crow-Armstrong stole that base, and the "he came off by two inches" overturn doesn't feel to me like it adheres to the spirit of the rule or make the game better.)

If Jim Joyce's blown call to take Armando Galarraga's perfect game was the moment we all decided replay should happen, I think that called "strike three" to Xander Bogaerts will get replayed quite a bit over the coming months while we eagerly await implementation of the ABS system.

Because WOW

Why on earth have I not been doing this already. Thank you

It’s not just during the broadcast, it’s even commercial to commercial. Ad #1 comes in hot, and then gives way to a whispering one
threetwoeephus.bsky.social
Not to be the “complain about the broadcast” guy, but is anyone else’s ABC streaming volume fluctuating, like.. *wildly*?
