With friends like these...

Being overexposed to unpredictable foreign powers is hardly secure.

Relying on US tech companies for our digital infrastructure means essential services could be compromised.

We need #DigitalSovereignty in the Cybersecurity Bill.

I feel like I really don’t want to play the game with the next album. I don’t want it to be reviewed, I am not bothered about press or radio. It’s too personal to me to hawk it in the ‘market place’. I am not just chasing fame and fortune; just sincere connection with our audience.

Strange but true, malware is probably the one domain where vibe coding will improve productivity, because most of the work is around assembling an attack vector based on known vulnerabilities and existing exploits.

No innovation required.

New 83 Icons music klaxon.

If all goes according to plan, this will be the first of several new releases this year.
The second EP, Winter, is out today and is available on all digital platforms.

Bandcamp is not only the cheapest place to purchase a copy, but it is also the only online store where you can download it in 24 bit high definition lossless. You also get a free digital booklet.

Top tip: pay a little extra for a TV with the Google OS. You can switch it into “dumb screen” mode which turns all of the smart features off, including ads, and it doesn’t bleat about not being connected to your WiFi.

Apparently Microsoft CEO Satya Nadell objects to the term “AI slop” and wants us to stop using the term.

Time to wheel out my favourite academic paper again, because it suggests a suitable replacement. It even explores the precise definition of the word. 😬

Developer learns that neither lines of code written nor number of PRs per day is actually a valid way of measuring productivity.

More news at 10…
From top AI coding user globally to completely stop using it because it's so much harder to review AI code than write it myself. And they say all software developers jobs will be replaced by LLM. Life comes fast at you. 🤣

The original album is certainly on my desert island list and Andvari is probably my favourite song from that record. So a ten minute plus version that strips it back to the voice, ambient drones and the string quartet is right up my street. Simply gorgeous.

This is a rhetorical question, but why are media folk unable to read graphs?

The article that I lifted this from (link in the thread) even says “the major difference between 2025's flu season and the previous three years is that the virus started spreading around a month earlier.”

As the first comment on the discussion thread, this isn’t a hardware problem, it’s a science one, and by extension a software one.

If you don’t know how intelligence works, you can’t model it in software, no matter how advanced your hardware is.

Juries are a crucial check on the abuse of power.

The government must not roll back jury trials.

Doing so will result in automated injustice as the criminal justice system looks towards crime-predicting tech and algorithmic decision-making.

Justice Secretary, David Lammy, has announced plans to drastically reduce the use of jury trials in England and Wales.

Yet again, this is what happens when you focus on short term cost cutting rather than focussing on quality.

It costs more in the long run.

Or a lossless download from Bandcamp… 😬
In fact a massive thumbs up to anyone that bought a physical copy of anyone’s record this year for helping to keep the art of the album alive.

Apropos of nothing in particular, where on Earth did that stock photo come from?

It’s been a while since I did my bricklaying course (and no, I’m not joking, it was a lot of fun) but that untidy mortar is quite triggering… 😬

We really do need a wide ranging review of public sector contracts with large consultancies. I do wonder how much of our taxes is being funnelled out to these shysters?

Call me a mad alien with a Ceefax fetish but I don’t think you should be allowed to drastically change the justice system without asking voters in advance. Starmer and Lammy, if you think this is so important you need to call an election and make your case. I’m free in January.

It's not exactly reassuring when you see these two headlines together.

Can anyone remind me where this significant change in policy was in their manifesto? This along with Digital ID and the ridiculous OSA would have been enough to dissuade me from voting for Labour.

As time passes, this record has become more important to me, to the point where it might now be my favourite Sylvian oriented record.
NEW ARTICLE: 'Wonderful World' is the opening track of the Nine Horses album, Snow Borne Sorrow. It was recorded early on by a trio of David Sylvian, Steve Jansen and Keith Lowe, with an additional vocal overlaid later by the wonderful Stina Nordenstam.

Give that (according to a study by Catherine Liu) 1 in 3 employees is a “professional manager”, will a lot of those roles go?

After all, the one thing that LLMs seem to be good at is regurgitating meaningless nonsense…
