In the most middle-age scenario ever, husband and I are watching Sunday football and nursing respective back ailments. He on the floor with ice. Me on the couch with a heat pad. Living the dream

I have a red dress hanging in my closet and a celebratory playlist ready to go. Every day, I rise with hope in my heart that today will be the day….

Bay Area things ICE is unprepared for: hills, the MacArthur Maze, prices, trying to find parking, how you expect people to be nice but we are secretly so mean, fog, Waymo chaos, the douche level of tech bros, entitled bicyclists, the selection of recycling/composting/landfill bins, paper straws

Looking forward to watching ICE try to chase people up our hills here in SF. They are not ready

It’s tempting to berate people who voted for Trump and now regret it. Omg, it’s tempting. But it’s not helpful or useful. Instead, we should make voicing that feel like a safe and empowered act. We need people to cross the divide. On the other hand, if you love ICE & Stephen Miller heartily fuck off

I feel like we need to send a team of pre-school teachers in to school Trump and his Cabinet. They could use a reminder to keep their hands to themselves, use their inside voices, share their toys, and listen with their ears and not their mouths

Things I want my taxes to go to: libraries, roads, SNAP benefits, medical benefits, schools, our military, environmental protections, infrastructure programs, housing

Things I don’t: military parades, ballrooms, private jets, ICE, Trump’s own piggy bank, subsidizing lower taxes for billionaires

Jesus Christ. Pam Bondi sounded like a belligerent teenager who’s come in drunk, late for curfew,, and who starts mouthing off when you threaten to take the car away

Dissent is not a crime. Ruling is not governance. A “traditional American religious value” is the separation of church and state. Thank you for coming to my TED talk

I’m not ashamed to be American, but I sure am pissed at half the country right now

If Trump’s cage was that rattled by a silent room, imagine what would happen if we just started telling him no. It would game over in a day

And the final kick in the teeth for the military folks at that stupid meeting is that when the government shuts down, they are going to have to pay their own way back to their stations…and then not get paid. Fucking criminal

Does anyone else see this coming from a mile away:
1. Coerce dems into a government shutdown
2. A national “emergency” suddenly happens
3. Time for the Insurrection Act
4. Time for formal Martial Law
5. Adios midterm elections
6. Bye bye 2028 elections and goodnight America

Literature is people power!
My way of coping with all of the madness is focusing on what I can do to make my community a little bit stronger. So excuse me for all of the earnestness, but I wrote about ways we can all pitch in to support a thriving literary culture. lithub.com/how-to-be-a-...

I’m starting to feel like the Epstein Files could get released and it still wouldn’t take this administration down. That’s how brainwashed I think people are. They’d find a way to say it’s all a hoax. That, and we’d immediately get martial law and no more elections. I hate it here
