From social media, to podcasters "just asking questions", to the mainstream press striving for "neutral" coverage, I think we can see the roots of massive systemic failure. Partial answer: huge investment in public education to bolster media literacy, critical thinking, disinformation awareness.

There are weekly demos in support of Gaza in Britain. Some in the tens of thousands. You can't demo in support of the group Palestine Action, which has been proscribed (rightly or wrongly).

In Canada, people were petitioning the government to allow the refugees to enter the government.
At the time, Canada had a strict anti-Jewish policy when it came to immigration. One senior Canadian official said of Jewish immigration:
