We sincerely apologise for the delay in receiving your copy of Annah, Infinite. This book is incredibly important, and we want to ensure that Khairani Barokka’s vision is fully honoured.
Annah, Infinite is a unique and complex work. It represents a new form of writing—unprecedented in the history of our publishing. Sweeping in scope, it draws on Okka’s interdisciplinary practice, multi-genre, and offering a radical new approach to weaving visual and textual culture, Annah, Infinite is groundbreaking.

Our typesetters have been working with great care, but they have requested additional time to set the book properly. We believe these elements are necessary to the work, as we want to ensure Okka’s book receives the attention, precision, and respect it so greatly deserves.

As a result, the publication date of Annah, Infinite has been moved back slightly to early September. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause, but rest assured—the book will be ready in time for Okka’s upcoming events.

Thank you for your patience and understanding as we take the necessary time to produce this extraordinary work with the care it deserves.

💥Yan Ge is looking for a challenge!

Part 1 of my conversation with Yan Ge is here.

Is it necessary to make life hard on yourself when writing, whether that’s in Chinese or English?

Falling behind a bit, but these are this week and weekend's lovely extra reads:

- How to Be Unmothered x @camilleuadams.bsky.social / Restless Books
- Annah, Infinite x mailbykite.bsky.social / @tiltedaxispress.bsky.social
- Patchwork x Tom Comitta / @coffeehousepress.bsky.social

💙📚
3 book covers. Unmothered is kind of a black and white double exposure masked into a torn dress on an orange background (I think). Annah Infinite is simple black title text under a forward slash (i think) on a pale pink background. Patchwork is orange and blue shapes arranged into a pattern.

ANNAH, INFINITE is an Expert Pick in @thebookseller.com!

Cropped photo of a newspaper clipping, with a pink book cover saying ‘Annah, Infinite by Khairani Barokka’, below which is the text: ‘Khairani Barokka | Annah, Infinite | Tilted Axis Press, 19th August, £15.99, PB, 9781917126038 | Part-memoir, part-deconstruction of colonialism and art, of disability and ableism and the understanding of pain, Annah, Infinite blends lyrical prose, visual art and poetry in English and Javanese, circling Paul Gauguin’s painting Annah la Javanaise (c1893-94). Barokka explores selfhood and interconnectivity as a disabled Indonesian creative under the multiple dehumanising colonial gaze of the art world and medical gaze of the abled world. Vital, groundbreaking work.’

PRAISE
‘What is behind a portrait? What layers of meaning and bodily experiences are hidden or distorted when one is objectified by the artist? Khairani Barokka breaks down Annah la Javanaise by Paul Gauguin through a lens of colonialism, ableism, heteronormativity, and racism. The author sees pain written on Annah’s body and reflects on her pain journey, tracing years of torture and neglect. Annah, Infinite is a fascinating exploration of Barokka’s relationship with a brown person who was real and made into a painting.’— Alice Wong, author of Year of the Tiger: An Activist’s Life

In a beautiful review, @taylortaeyeon.bsky.social calls it “a ghost story about memory that lingers and grief that mutates.”
