Privacy, Information Governance and Tech Ethics wonk, based in Sydney Australia. Mediocre ukulele player. Slightly snobbish about coffee.
Been a bit time poor lately so had to do this in pieces over a few days. I think they’re more of a classic 90s boy band rather than a goth band.

Was tickled by these two

I’m way too pleased with myself on this one. Anyway, this is Sidney (the aggressor) and Daisy (the innocent party).

What is ‘prototyping’, a story in three acts.

What a pack of flamin’ galahs

Your one-hour piece is as valid as your ten-hour one. Just do something. And then keep doing it.

Practice doesn’t have to be good to be useful. Small and rough is still helpful skill building.

October 2025 - behold the most judgmental owl I have even seen (another amazing @mikemelton.bsky.social reference).
October 25, 2025 at 2:11 AM
September 2025 - Sunday afternoon life drawing sessions, fun with charcoal pencils
October 25, 2025 at 2:08 AM
August 2025 - simplicity can be effective; Motherhood looks hard.
October 25, 2025 at 1:22 AM
June 2025 - Landscapes are hard, but dogs remain good fodder (and are at least enthusiastic about the results).
October 25, 2025 at 1:15 AM
May 2025 - begun, the Birb Wars have. Thanks @mikemelton.bsky.social. Birds are much easier to draw than humans for some reason.
October 25, 2025 at 1:08 AM
April 2025 - crawl, walk, run? No, the lesson is, tracing is a useful tool and there’s not such thing as cheating, only technique.
October 25, 2025 at 12:52 AM
But also a good lesson in the importance of making a second attempt. These were done in dip pen with fountain pen ink - which reacts very differently to watercolour. It dries a lot faster but also has a kind of glow.

March 2025 - kind of fell down a hole hand-painting memes.
October 25, 2025 at 12:43 AM
February 2025 - a lot of experiments. Ink drops into water produces a kind of fractal effect (shamelessly stole this technique from TikTok). How do highlights work in watercolour? What if gnomes were anarchists?
October 25, 2025 at 12:36 AM
January 2025 - well, now it’s on. Christmas gifts included a dip pen set, India ink, and a new sketchbook, and plenty of new photo references. So now we move beyond just pencil to ink and colour illustrations, aided by a salvaged watercolour set.
October 25, 2025 at 12:27 AM
December 2024 - experiments with fountain pens and fancy new Christmas present watercolour pencils. Kinda flamed out on fountain pens, a bit too much maintenance and faff.
October 25, 2025 at 12:15 AM
November 2024 - experimenting with faces, and live drawing. Frankly struggling, faces are hard and perspective is a challenge. I probably should have looked up some tutorials but, no, I just persisted…
October 25, 2025 at 12:11 AM
So October 2024 - pencil sketching in a tiny notebook.
October 25, 2025 at 12:06 AM
All done, some minor detailing with watercolour pencils and a white gel pen.
October 17, 2025 at 1:43 PM
Multiple washes on the body. A pale ochre, then multiple layers of pale greens, yellows and darker browns.
October 17, 2025 at 1:42 PM
Shadows first. I put a lot of effort into softening and blending the edges.
October 17, 2025 at 1:40 PM
We will begin with a rough pencil sketch.
October 17, 2025 at 1:38 PM
Don’t tell me what to do!
