What does the fox say?🦊

Today, we’re showing off our favorite pictures of culpeo foxes we’ve spotted around Cerro Pachón, home of NSF–DOE Rubin Observatory. 📸

💡Fun fact: While these little guys look like foxes (and are called foxes), they’re actually more closely related to wolves and jackals!🔭

Travel from the comfort of your own home this #25DaysofFishmas as we explore fishes from all across the US each day in December. Best part? No sleeping on air mattresses in guest rooms!

The road trip kicks off with fishes from the southeastern US on Monday Dec. 1!

Go my Bothriolepis... This year's fish pecan pie! Bothriolepis was a peculiar-looking placoderm from the Devonian period or the Paleozoic. It had two long pointed pectoral fins and silly little eyes on top of its head.

I don't know why this idea is suddenly flaring up online so early, but yeah, this time next year, Voyager 1 will be one light-DAY away – meaning it will take light a whole 24 hours to travel between Earth and the spacecraft. For comparison: Mars is a few light MINUTES from Earth!

Have you ever heard of an allonautilus? The fuzzy sea peach at the top of my oil painting is the extremely rare allonautlius. Its only been documented in the wild a couple of times.

☀️ Lessons from the November 2025 solar storm

Last week, Earth was hit by a large solar storm. The event provided an opportunity for multiple ESA missions, whether orbiting Earth or far into deep space, to collect radiation data, which is now being analysed.
