This new recommendation on hepatitis B vaccinations is scary. Science should guide these recommendations, not ideology. I had to think of the potential consequences for newborn babies who are unknowly being put at risk for a horrible disease.
Breaking: After contentious debates and three failed attempts at a vote, a federal vaccine committee decided on Friday to end the decades-long recommendation that all newborns be immunized at birth against hepatitis B.

This article in Forbes does a nice job of describing how @aspph.bsky.social has responded to the effort to narrow the definition of "professional degrees," which excludes public health degrees. We can't let this rule be finalized without including the MPH and DrPH. www.forbes.com/sites/judyst...

Just awful to see the news that Army Specialist Sarah Beckstrom, one of the National Guard soldiers shot in D.C., on Wednesday, has died. So sad for her family.

“U.S. Announces Negotiated Prices for 15 Drugs Under Medicare.” If we can do this, let's pass the Cure Hepatitis C Act (S. 1941), which would enable a negotiated price for drugs that would cure millions of Americans.

While I agree that we probably do need to retool the US scientific research infrastructure, this approach strikes me as one focused on financial gains, rather than advancing scientific knowledge. Tiny $100k grants aren't likely to produce major breakthroughs for human health.

A federal commission is calling for significant changes to the way the U.S. government funds and assesses scientific research.

Dismantaling the Department of Education without a cogent to plan for how to address the many issues facing students and schools at all levels, will not be good for US education.
Exclusive: The Education Department plans to move multiple parts of the agency to other federal departments, an unprecedented effort to dismantle an agency created by Congress to ensure all Americans have equal access to educational opportunity.
Trump administration to announce dismantling of much of Education Dept.
President Donald Trump signed an executive order in March seeking to close the department, but only Congress has the power to do that.

That means new public health experts could lose access to key higher ed resources, like loan limits & reimbursement.

A bold strategy to let infectious diseases win! 🦠
