There is still time for employers to join this event- almost 50 schools bringing their grads and recent alumni. Hire for a specific job or network in different areas of #culturalresources, #preservation, and #heritage!

I see what you did there #FTC and #RTX…. Good job with the #Decode competition about #robotics and #archaeology- you avoided #treasure, #tombs, and grave-robbing tropes. The competition requires the teams to pay attention to the relationships between artifacts, not just collecting things. Well done!

I had a lot of interesting conversations at this event and learned a great deal about the challenges of abandoned coal mines. Hopefully we will have many follow up conversations….

More than any other platform, that one helps me track companies and their job postings, news, and hiring; supporting our alumni and graduating students in their early career networking; pushing news to our university’s wider alumni network, and so on.

I use the network for specific types of communication and networking. I originally set it up very intentionally to be professional with no bleed into my personal social network, which all other platforms have. I manage a group of 15,000 subscribers in historical archaeology.

We hit the moment in the semester when student research teams get their first data…. And #plots.
And there is much rejoicing.

Including the wrong recipient is a mistake. Using a non-government platform for classified information is a crime.

I wish bsky allowed bookmarking or sensing myself direct messages… I send myself gear and useful stuff like this so I can find it later!

You should ask some archaeologists about this if you’d like to commiserate. Just because “A lot of people are saying.”

We now have 50 schools and 22 employers, with more requests coming in! This will be event that exceeds my wildest hopes for a little experiment. We put this together in three weeks, amid professional chaos. I’m stunned.

No interest in debating. Gender isn't sex and animals don't have gender. But your statement about "boy cows/girl cows" is Pollyanna at best (if you don't understand the messiness of nature), disingenuous at worst (if you do-but choose to pretend). Human variation in sex and gender is wonderful.

The $1bn annual CRM world relies entirely upon networking for students and new grads to get their foot in the door. This is a serious disadvantage to those that graduate from small programs or in regions that are removed from active CRM fieldwork.

A spectacular bronze head of a griffin went missing from a Greek museum and ended up in the Metropolitan Museum, which is now returning it after research showed it was stolen. Great, you'd think... unless you know this research was done 87 YEARS AGO. 🧵 from your local provenance grump.
Screenshot of New York Times article with title "Met Museum Returning Ancient Bronze Thought Stolen from Greek Museum," available at https://www.nytimes.com/2025/02/24/arts/design/met-museum-return-greek-griffin-head.html Screenshot from New York Times article with title "Met Museum Returning Ancient Bronze Thought Stolen from Greek Museum," available at https://www.nytimes.com/2025/02/24/arts/design/met-museum-return-greek-griffin-head.html, reading "The head had been displayed at the entrance to The Met’s Greek and Roman galleries since 1999. It was originally discovered in a river bed in Olympia, in the Peloponnese region of Greece, in 1914 by the curator of the Archaeological Museum of Olympia, but it went missing roughly two decades later, the Met said in a statement. It said research by the Met and Greek authorities showed the antiquity had been stolen."

I know most of you senior-level folk have established professional networks, but if you'd like to join the fair, you can try the same process with your MS or PhD institution. It may be possible to sign in using only a gmail address. I'll post more information here as I learn.
timscarlett.bsky.social
If you are more mid-career or senior-level, this will be more difficult. The network is intended for entry level jobs, but we will do all we can to attract employers that are aware of more experienced professionals.

Start with the department chair or the college or university's alumni or career services offices. You'll need to find out if you college or uni is on Handshake (many, many of them are) and if you can still use your .edu email address to log into the system.
