PS: I forgot, even if we would now press the development of MSRs it would take ~20years for it to be ready. Fusion will take even longer. NB: We still need small research reactors for medical treatments and diagnoses, like PET scans!

... which still be deadly long after humans are not on earth anymore. It would be different if the molten salt reactor (MSR) would have been pursuit instead of the pressurised water reactor. With that there would be little to no radioactive waste. See the arte doku, sorry it is in German

To be truthful: Schröder did the gas deal with Putin, but Merkel did just continue that one.
And to nuclear, IMHO it is not worth to to continue it in its current form. The whole industry is build on the military use of it and there is still the problem of the nuclear waste, ...
