Around 5000 people walked the banned pride in Pécs!

It was not only a huge support for the LGBTIQ community and the freedom of assembly, but also a big protest against the authoritarian regime led by Orbán.

On my way to the Pride to be held in Pécs, Hungary. I will be there with some colleague MEPs to offer protection and support. Because Orbán prohibited this Pride again to deter participants. But I hope that many people will show up. The more, the safer!

Commission keeps EU funding for Hungary frozen, despite Orbán’s trick of reshuffling to another programme. But still he gets 163,5 million.
The Commission should prevent reshuffling of frozen funds anyhow.
Close that loophole for autocrats, rescue the rule of law.

Orbán has taken 6 million euros from Budapest's bank account, in the latest step of his budgetary squeezing of the Greens-led city. Budapest will likely go bankrupt soon, stopping essential services for its people. But Orbán will happily sacrifice them for his own power.

Gloedvol betoog van @jesseklaver.groenlinkspvda.nl vóór democratie en de rechtsstaat. Hij veroordeelt het ‘democratisch vandalisme’ in de Kamer en roept op tot strijdbaarheid. Op 29 oktober stemmen we voor solidariteit ipv verdeeldheid.

With support from all the pro-democratic groups, I asked Commissioner McGrath to act against the banning of the Pécs Pride. Orbán cannot violate LGBTQI+ rights with impunity, and the use of facial recognition on protesters is unacceptable. I will be at the Pécs Pride. Commission: do your part!

Yesterday I presented my draft report on the Hungarian rule of law.

My message: the Hungarian RoL has worsened significantly. Therefore, the EU must freeze more funds and take away Orbán's veto.

I look forward to working with my pro-democratic colleagues on this resolution.

During my visit at the Turkish/Syrian border, humanitarian actors draw the same conclusion: The situation in Syria is volatile, many areas are unsafe and basic facilities are inadequate.

In other words, the EU push for returns to Syria is premature, shortsighted and inhumane.

Very happy that the Parliament finally adopted a strong resolution on Gaza, clearly demanding a tougher EU policy towards Israel.

The ball is in the court of the EU Member States. Strong measures are needed to protect international law.

We have no time to lose.

Fijn dat ik na mijn speech ook nog even college mocht geven! 😀

En over een belangrijk onderwerp: de rechtsstaat in Slowakije, die met Fico razendsnel afbreekt. Geïnspireerd door autocraat Orban, die ongestraft zijn gang kon gaan. EU: maak die fout niet nog een keer en handel snel!

Von der Leyen's proposal to suspend trade benefits for Israel is a welcome, but long overdue first step. It should mark the beginning of a new EU-Israel policy.

We must go all out to save the Palestinians and international law.

Na vier jaar eindelijk gerechtigheid: Afghaanse bewakers van Nederlandse ambassade moeten onmiddellijk in veiligheid worden gebracht door ze naar Nederland te halen. Juridisch en moreel een dure plicht naar de mensen die hun leven op het spel zetten voor ons.
