well I'm glad they've touched you so much, and I wish you all the best in resolving your own course 😌

also looking forward to the end of the thread when you get around to it :3

like yeah of course it's the silver tides again, that ship broke everyone on the cast, that's what it's about, 'did we ever leave' is a literal question as much as a thematic one

like if the idea of the repetition (in concept if not really in practice) bothers a reader, a story about failing to escape trauma and trying to reckon with that, and the way I've chosen to tell it, probably isn't for them, and that's not something that I should factor into my developmental process
January 12, 2026 at 12:49 PM
yeah there's a reason I don't read reviews, I did initially and it was occasionally neat to see people really connect but just as often it was someone who just didn't get it, or it wasn't for them, and that's fine, but it's also not productive for me to see

I've been thinking a lot about how you can characterize the books like

AQU: everyone is fearfully inquisitive
ASOS: Sarah is gore-soaked and screaming in rage
Mask: Cora is curled up in a ball on the floor

and idk something about that makes me really proud, the distinct yet connected thing

ty for the rec!

I hear they used to roll off an assembly line somewhere but *someone* had a problem with that
January 12, 2026 at 12:14 PM
it's a good niche to fill I think, like there's a wide spectrum of realism represented in things like racing, why not flight? stuff like DCS is way too much for me, just don't have the time or energy, so I'm glad there's something a bit more demanding than AC-likes that isn't life-consuming

I keep meaning to return to wuwa, its world is staggeringly beautiful
January 12, 2026 at 11:45 AM
ok yeah this is really compelling, this is my first time with a game this close to sim and I get why people like these

playing on a controller atm because I have a throttle module but my stick is still in the mail, really excited to return to it with proper controls
January 12, 2026 at 11:43 AM
thank you!
January 12, 2026 at 10:50 AM
ahh in that case you would be correct :3
Sunan is they/them incidentally!

pixel art is the example I like

it was originally born of technical limitations, and used in specific ways as a result of them, but modern pixel art (unless specifically mimicking old limitations) has very little in common with its roots, it's expanded beyond them into new spaces

honestly I think that's a more cynical view than is necessarily warranted, yeah a lot of this is definitely rooted in nostalgia but I think that there's a point where these things become self-perpetuating and turn into their own artistic languages
January 12, 2026 at 10:20 AM
I genuinely love artificial wow as a tool in the toolbox, and I'm really curious to see how the visual language of the CRT is used and reinterpreted going forward
January 12, 2026 at 9:50 AM
we've seen something kinda like that happening with stylistic elements integrated into low-fi music, things like cassette wow being integrated so often that statistically some people using it must not know it comes from cassette malfunction, it just sounds cool
January 12, 2026 at 9:49 AM
this is honestly a really interesting question to me because CRTs are just childhood technology for me so I know instinctively what they looked like, and I wonder what elements of the vibe become compelling for someone who has never touched one
January 12, 2026 at 9:46 AM
like will we start to get games that look like the games that look like CRT displays without the developers understanding what it is they're trying to emulate? and if/when that starts to happen, what would it look like? what artistic liberties start to get taken the way we see with 8/16 bit homage?

Optimal Snuffbait Strat Playbook

naaaah Sunan is too nice, thinking about being mean to a fabricant even as a joke would vaporize them on the spot, and then Sarah is too stiff, it'd have to be either The Voice or Minerva, with *maybe* Annalise as a distant third
January 12, 2026 at 9:40 AM
cuteness is an important element of snuffbaitiness imo you've gotta have the 'big pleading eyes you couldn't possibly hurt widdle old me' factor
