Disabled writer of things. Bad at being on BlueSky. Debut novel AWAKENED out now with Angry Robot Books.

‘An impressive debut worth losing sleep over’ - New York Times
4. Make a Home of Me by Vanessa Santos

a creepy little collection of stories concerning the uncanny nature of home. ‘Emily’ was a standout in this one for me, and ‘Changes’ is a great study in creating unease in the ordinary

3. Bog People: A working-class anthology of folk horror, edited by Hollie Starling

this is a really strong collection of stories (and one, Yellowbelly, features the dialect of my home town!). Personal favourites: Yellowbelly, Eldritch, The Ossuary, and The Hanging Stones

please enjoy hercule purrot and his very long legs warming himself by the fire this evening

2. Picnic at Hanging Rock by Joan Lindsay

i’d seen the film but never read the book, & while i think the pace may be too slow for some, the build-up is beautifully done. i can see a thread here between Lindsay & Shirley Jackson, re: the subtle uncanniness & societal violence

***2026 reading thread***

1. Great Expectations - Charles Dickens

i promised i’d give Dickens another go this year so began with one i’d read at school & university, & i was pleasantly surprised by how much easier, funnier, & more enjoyable i found it. me & Charles may get on!
