ORDER TITANIOUS: https://linktr.ee/titanious
APOCALYPSE ZERO (1996); Ashi Productions

One of the wildest pieces of animation I've witnessed. Imagine if you took Fist of the North Star, reinterpreted it as a henshin hero series, and amped the gratuitousness.

Not gonna be for everyone, but I'd be lying if I said it wasn't fun.

TITANIOUS Book Two: Trials of Olympus will step back from the action to focus on the greater war we face within ourselves. I'm excited to show what this next chapter has in store. This story was bigger than I thought, and I can't wait for you guys to see. linktr.ee/titanious

There's a saying where in order to love someone, you have to love yourself. And personally, I think that kind of thinking can apply to just about any action, as in this next book, before Gabriel can conquer the impending reign of Ares, he must conquer his own spirit.

There was a tragedy to being lost between worlds, and never came to a sense of fulfillment that I wasn't taking advantage of. After setting the tone, and planting the seeds of how he would overcome himself, the next book would emphasize those personal flaws that held him back.

Admittedly, I didn't give too much though about Gabriel's character arc at first. I thought as long as I had a visual, I could just project him in whatever scenarios I had in mind. But, as I proceeded to flesh out the story, it was both exciting, but also unsatisfying.

Someone imperfect, but could be like a brother who's still young, and trying to make sense of the world around him. A visage of kindness, toughness, with a bit of naivete, and almost feeling lost. And in doing so, the artists credited in the image followed a similar process.

But, going back to how I wanted to present Gabriel, as someone who lacks a level of artistic ability carried by my peers, I thought about how others would like to envision a character who is, to quote Peter Cullen "strong enough to be gentle."

It's a trap that a lot of fan-made creations tend to fall into. Not to suggest that sense of familiarity is inherently bad, only when it completely dictates a work's identity.

So I used Duke as this sort of outline, and thought about how I could make my protagonist someone that a modern reader can connect with. It was crucial that I write someone who doesn't just rely on genre tropes, or was dependent on the reader going "oh, x reminds me of y."

Though, ever since I read it, his one work that always stuck with me despite its flaws was Grendizer, especially in how the character of Duke Fleed was a lot more cool compared to the likes of Koji and Tetsuya, in addition to the story having more emphasis on Shakespearean drama.

When I was workshopping the treatment back in 2022, I took hefty influence from the works of Go Nagai, especially in how he combined mythical elements with science fiction, and always featuring a hot-blooded protagonist.
