Had a zine in college called Ambergris, because that was the name of the band that they did the same thing to for the Watery Domestic EP

When I first heard tracks from this one with its shift in tone, style, volume, and amount of riffage I was highly skeptical. Have to say it delivers hard, and is maybe even better than the previous solo record.

Initial hot take: this one plays like Joan fronting the Weather Station and I’m so here for that

Many years ago I got David Thomas Broughton to play at an art gallery. He’d just put out that album that melted my mind. Tour was with Doveman, and Sam was in his band. We picked up the PA together, borrowed from Ducktails/future Real Estate guy. Sam was so nice and wearing a huge cowboy hat.

Regardless of the outcome of this Sox/Yanks game which I’m sure will be a nail biter, I personally think it should be illegal that the Yanks are starting two guys from eastern Mass. If the Sox win I’m calling my senators to complain.

Garrett Crochet's 117th and final pitch of the night -- the most in a start in his career -- was a 100.2 mph fastball for a strikeout.

That was his fastest pitch of the night and his fastest strikeout pitch of his career as a starting pitcher

Incredible outing.

Doing that little shimmy shake bob and weave, smiling ear to ear, mouthing along the words I remeber, and laughing my ass off. The Tubs are the best jangle pop band around and the funnest live band I’ve seen in awhile (10shows.2025)

Thing that this take misses is there are a lot of us who are Sox fans who don’t have NESN. I’ve never had cable in my adult life and the price for NESN streaming is absurd. I do however have Apple+ and I watched the whole game last night

Yessss would be so excited if they did a US tour. Listening to Total Control as I type this, so you know I’m a Mikey Young guy haha. Trying to think of the US equivalent of this kinda comeback, Fugazi is the only thing that comes to mind…

Always very entertained when the Boston sports media gets pissy about Sox games on Apple. Some of us are life long, borderline diehard fans, who have never subscribed to NESN but have Apple…

If your label is home to bands as amazing and varied as the Tubs, En Attendant Ana, the Serfs, FACS, Sunwatchers, Dummy, Nightshift, Martin Frawley, the Mountain Movers, etc. and you can’t make/have to shut down it really says something about how low we’ve sunk as a culture. RIP Trouble in Mind.

Yes! We had front row seats in Cambridge for that run. Then when I saw him with the full band, later at the Orpheum, I was basically in the last row haha

Jeff Mangum really did the Neutral Milk Hotel comeback thing just right. Ramped it up with some solo gigs, which I saw, played all the big spots and got all the top billing he deserved, which I saw. Then he played everywhere else for like 3 years, and finally went away again. No new songs.
