I believe Mohamed Salah, Florian Wirtz and Alexander Isak are guaranteed starters for #LFC this season. The fourth attacker changes our system and style, depending on how we want to setup to beat our opponents:

Cody Gakpo 4-2-3-1/4-3-3
Dominik Szoboszlai 3-4-3/4-4-2 diamond
Hugo Ekitike 4-4-2/4-2-4

I was never against Jon Moxley as Champion, I just questioned the story being told with Adam Copeland.

It felt like his title reign was based on the younger generation not being good enough to reach his level. Cope sort of took the story on a tangent about older talent holding younger guys back.

The Great Moxley Panic of Fall 2024 is so fascinating in retrospect. It seemed like every AEW fan with an X (then bluesky) freaked out about how awful he was as champion, as buyrates just went up up up...

Having a big LMAO moment with all the praise and cheers for Mox today and nodding enegetically in approval to TK's words about him. A WHOLE BUNCH OF YOU just a half year ago ago were calling Mox washed and saying he should Dean Ambrose his way back to WWE.

I think, eventually, the same thing will be true of Milos Kerkez and Jeremie Frimpong.

Once we have a midfield three of Mac Allister, Gravenberch and Szoboszlai again, you will see Kerkez and Frimpong attacking the wings with Wirtz and Salah cutting in, to provide goals and assists for Isak up top.
tjandrews93.bsky.social
It was the same thing with Jordan Henderson and Georginio Wijnaldum, we won the Champions League and Premier League with them but people said ‘We should buy players who can score more though…’

Andrew Robertson and Trent Alexander-Arnold were able to attack so much is because of Gini and Hendo.
tjandrews93.bsky.social
The difference is last season we won the Premier League but people like Jamie Carragher said ‘Liverpool need to replace Dominik Szoboszlai with a new CAM because he doesn’t get enough goals and assists.’ The reason for that is he was playing a box-to-box role and that helped us win games and titles.
tjandrews93.bsky.social
My point is Dominik Szoboszlai was on the pitch but wasn't playing RCM in a 4-3-3, he was playing CAM in a 4-2-3-1.

I am not blaming Florian Wirtz for us conceding more goals, I am blaming the style and system where we are playing a 10 instead of one 6 and two 8's.

Yes, an argument is my argument.
tjandrews93.bsky.social
I think there is an argument most of the goals we have conceded could have been avoided if we had Alexis Mac Allister, Ryan Gravenberch and Dominik Szoboszlai as a midfield three this season.

With Florian Wirtz as an attacking midfielder, the balance in midfield is off now and it's stopped working.

Scoring isn't a problem for #LFC this season, we are joint third for most goals scored so far. Arsenal have one more goal than us, Man City have two more goals than us.

Our problem is defence, #LFC have conceded 9 goals in 7 games. None of the other top 9 Premier League teams have conceded more.
michaelreid.bsky.social
Liverpool's first 3 Premier League games this season:

8 goals from 3.4 xG

Liverpool's last 4 Premier League games:

5 goals from 7.4 xG

#LFC
tjandrews93.bsky.social
I think this is the most concerning thing about #LFC this season for me.

In basically every game so far this season, the statistics are mixed on whether we should have won or lost the match. Correct me if I am wrong but there’s not been one game so far where we controlled the match for 90+ minutes.

🟥 Monte Carlo Stats vs. Reality

🗣️@Barts78 " In terms of MCs, it says we should have won the game, 45 versus 27, the score alone should have been 2-1. The 1-0 is the highest percentage score. It's a bit of a mixed bag in terms of the numbers."

What I’m talking about is going back to the 4-3-3 from last season, by playing the players we had last season and then introducing the new players when they understand our system and style.

Then it could evolve into a 4-2-2-2 when we are attacking and a 4-4-2 or 3-4-3 when we are defending deeper.
tjandrews93.bsky.social
This season when we get countered, we will likely have Alisson, Van Dijk, Konate, Gravenberch and Mac Allister behind the ball. With Kerkez and Frimpong running back.

We are getting overwhelmed and it is making Konate and Mac Allister drop their form from last season. Things need to change now.
tjandrews93.bsky.social
We were playing 4-3-3 last season, we are playing 4-2-3-1 this season. I am surprised you don’t see the difference.

Last season when we got countered, we would likely have Alisson, Van Dijk, Konate, Gravenberch, Mac Allister, Szoboszlai and Trent still behind the ball. With Robbo running back too.
tjandrews93.bsky.social
4-3-3:
Wirtz - Isak - Salah
Macca - Grav - Dom
Milos - Virgil - Ibou - Frimpong
Alisson

That’s what I want to see for the majority of this season but I think we get there by playing:

Gakpo - Chiesa - Salah
Macc - Grav - Dom
Robbo - Virgil - Ibou - Bradley
Alisson

Until the new guys get the style.
tjandrews93.bsky.social
Which puts pressure on Wirtz to be as creative as Szoboszlai and Mac Allister were last season.

Both Wirtz and Mac Allister are being overwhelmed and are now underperforming.

Which is why I suggested Wirtz should move to a left wing role, replacing Diaz and competing with Gakpo moving forward.
tjandrews93.bsky.social
Whereas this season we are clearly playing a 4-2-3-1.

Gravenberch is doing a very similar job to last season but Mac Allister is having to do the work of himself and Szoboszlai from last season because we are playing Wirtz in a more advanced role now.

Macca isn’t as creative as he was last season.
tjandrews93.bsky.social
As for our system being the same this season to last season, I disagree.

#LFC played a 4-3-3 last season, with Gravenberch as a deep six and often fitting in between the centre backs at times, with Mac Allister and Szoboszlai as box-to-box eights and who were often criticised for not scoring much.
tjandrews93.bsky.social
I agree that Milos Kerkez should be seen as the longterm starter for #LFC at left back.

I just think things need to change with our system and style and we should go back to what worked for us last season. So I would play the players who were here last season, giving newer players time to learn.
tjandrews93.bsky.social
Not every goal starts from a mistake. A goal can just come from great play from the attacking team.

You make it sound like Liverpool haven’t conceded a goal in every game this season, except for Arsenal (where Kerkez played 90 mins) and Burnley (where Kerkez was subbed off at 38 minutes for Robbo).
tjandrews93.bsky.social
Cucurella should have never been allowed to cross that ball across the goal.

The point of playing Robbo is to go back to playing the system and style where we were winning games last season. The changes we have made are not working and our new players will need time to learn to adapt to it.
tjandrews93.bsky.social
I think in terms of controlling a game at the back, Ibrahima Konate is better but Matip was still quality at that. Matip was better with the ball at his feet though neither of them have a great range of passing.

Robbo didn’t cost us the Chelsea game. Our midfield gave Caicedo too much time and…
tjandrews93.bsky.social
Have a good day, mate. 👍
tjandrews93.bsky.social
Ibrahima Konate is a better defender than Joel Matip but Joel Matip was a better partner for Virgil Van Dijk.

You could be right that Alessandro Bastoni won’t leave Inter Milan but I would test the waters before ruling it out. Bastoni is at his best when he is playing as a left centre back, mate.
tjandrews93.bsky.social
I am absolutely okay with the idea that we can find a better centre back than Dayot Upamecano but I am not accepting you or anyone else calling him awful.

He is a top quality player, who isn’t likely to reach world class level. It’s like signing Joel Matip, he could become a great partner for VVD.
tjandrews93.bsky.social
No, the whole idea of signing replacements is that they replace the players who are leaving

If Ibrahima Konate is leaving on a free transfer, we could sell him in January and use the money to buy Dayot Upamecano.

It would be up to Arne Slot to get the team to the same level or even higher levels.
tjandrews93.bsky.social
Agree to disagree, mate. For me… Alessandro Bastoni is not a left back, he is a centre back.
tjandrews93.bsky.social
Which is why I am suggesting players who are leaving on a free transfer at the end of the season, Marc Guehi and/or Dayot Upamecano.

As much as Crystal Palace and Bayern Munich will want to sell them for a lot because we are desperate, it won’t be for a fee as high as other quality centre backs.
