Virtually every Southerner I know has worked very hard to shed that accent. It only comes roaring back if they’re mad, drunk, or talking about food.

If there isn’t a word, there should be. I felt that way watching the wildfires by Idanha and Mill City. The fact that someone got dozens of people out on old logging roads—which was so close to impossible as makes no odds—is one of the few things that reliably chokes me up.
