I have trouble with a single high on Ode to Joy/Cruel Country/Cousin that is better than the best song on any individual solo album (save Infinite Surprise, that’s my favorite kind of Wilco song)

Magic Whip sounded like a greatest hits album (derogatory), but I really enjoyed The Ballad of Darren. Like he’d finally figured out a Blur song was vs. a Gorillaz song in this era. Which for the record is what I fear Tweedy has lost track of with his solo vs. Wilco work!

For me it’s the guitar solo, I always associate it with Nebula’s lil dance (I also think it’s a slightly tweaked take on the melody of Fairytale of NY which is why it works so well)

It would have made the underlying piece more interesting to disclose and write about it with some hindsight, at minimum. Might have even changed the tone of the article to illustrate how this guy was being rehabilitated back into this rarefied club after the plea deal!
