I just finished Act I. It clocks in at 62k words.

I feel like I just birthed a child but I still have two more acts to go for the first book of a tetralogy (and counting).
Off to Act II tomorrow.

Officially passed 60k words today. Fully expected to be finished with Act I by this point, but, probably have another 5k-8k to go for that. Characters and their relationship dynamics keep popping up unexpectedly. Not my fault.

"Power tends to corrupt, and absolute power corrupts absolutely"

This may not apply to Trump who was corrupted absolutely by virtue of DNA and unchecked childhood, but it sure looks like he's empowered the right to drop pretense of "common sense" for pure impulse guided by punitive natures.

Output degradation is vanishing; now real issues to contend with. Any race is an invitation to carelessness. The best plotted advancements may still succumb to unforeseen disasters because they were rushed. Disparate worldviews and suspiciousness continue to be prime suspects in human extinction.

No surprise here...
I went from starting to write one sci-fi book, to developing a trilogy arc, which has now morphed into a tetralogy. No doubt this will eventually become a heptalogy.

Lot's of talk today about comedians (particularly Gervais) needing to punch up rather than down.

World Christian Pop: 32%
World Muslim Pop: 26%
World Atheist Pop: 7%

None of these people seem to recognize that religious folk shitting on atheists is punching down. Sykes isn't a saint here.

I've been DMing a weekly game for teens for the past few months. Here are 3 DM tips that work for my group:

1. Have an option to avoid non-essential fights.
2. Always penalize critical fails.
3. Punish party splitters, reward story progressers.

Any other advice?

Will Patton has been in some not very good productions, but I love him in every single one of them.

I should be celebrating David Bowie right now. Instead, all I can think about is the relevance of this Jesse Plemmons moment…

I know I'm late to the party, but I finally cut cable tv after having it persistently for 27 years. That's an extra $200+ for my house, and we still have all the content we use regularly via streaming.

The cliche of the veteran cop being paired with a rookie and immediately being an asshole about it really needs to stop.

A top tenner for me
David Bowie released his single ‘Scary Monsters (and Super Creeps)’ on this day in 1981.

It may have taken me half a century, but I finally taught myself how to make pierogis. I started with potato onion and cheese. Now I cannot wait to do meats and fruits. There is no stopping this monster.

It’s the 30th anniversary of 12 Monkeys.

What a phenomenal entry in the sci fi pantheon.

Once localized AIs can walk, they will develop additional components of human intelligence (spatial, kinesthetic, naturalistic, and maybe existential). The picture still won’t be complete, but the usefulness will be less stochastic and continue to grow.
We are (re-)learning that intelligence is a much more complicated and multi-dimensional concept than just "can solve problems"

Stand By Me is a top 5 film for me, and Princess Bride is in my top 10.

What an incredible talent the world lost with Rob Reiner; what a gut-wrenching human tragedy for both the Reiners’ friends and family.

Goddamn. Shitting on Tarantino is all the rage these days.

The guy always seemed like a dick, this is nothing new. Unsupported hot takes on his films being garbage, though, are just pungent vapors.
