one unstated implication of this argument is that those of us whose diagnosis of trumpism is that it is tied tightly to gendered and racialized status anxiety are close to the mark.
Maybe It Was Never About the Factory Jobs
The theory that populist economic policies can win back the working class for Democrats has been tried, and it has failed.

So basically in a couple of months we are all gonna have to decide if we should do things like “follow the law” & “respect authority” …or more basically “keep your head down” or “don’t call attention”…

NYT: Trump Campaign Promises to Restore Glory to the Fatherland
Three shocking, and what should be campaign-killing, Trump/Vance stories today:
1) Milley calls Trump a fascist.
2) Trump/Miller engage in Nazi rhetoric at rally in Aurora, CO.
3) Vance once again repeatedly refuses to acknowledge that Trump lost the 2020 election.
Will these be covered widely?

The Right’s political project is both ideologically and strategically centered around the goal of restricting political participation and curtailing the right to vote - ideologically because they don’t believe in equal citizenship; strategically because they know they can’t win otherwise.

The situation is so dangerous because it basically means that democracy itself is on the ballot in every election.

This isn’t going to change anytime soon either, as the power centers of conservative / Republican politics are firmly in the hands of a radicalizing anti-democratic movement.
The fundamental reality of American politics is that only the Democratic Party is a (small-d) democratic party.

Pretending otherwise depends entirely on ignoring what Republicans have been doing with power wherever they are in charge - and openly vow to do with power in the future.
Since the 2020 elections, Republicans have adopted new voting restrictions in every state where they have held single-party control or veto-proof legislative majorities, according to this analysis
