Related, at one point there was a statue of Mel Gibson from Braveheart near this tower. It was deeply unpopular and removed in 2008.

It takes a special talent to make a piece of art so terrible that they have to put a cage around your statue titled "FREEDOM" because people keep vandalizing it.
A photo of Tom Church's statue "Freedom" which is a large stone carving depicting Mel Gibson as William Wallace in the movie Braveheart. The statue's mouth is agape as if he's yelling "Freedom!!" Excerpt from Wikipedia: Church leased the statue to Stirling Council, who in 1997 installed it in the car park of the visitor centre at the foot of the craig. The statue was deeply unpopular, being described as "among the most loathed pieces of public art in Scotland" and was regularly vandalised before being placed in a cage to prevent further damage. Plans to expand the visitor centre, including a new restaurant and reception, led to the unpopular statue's removal in 2008.
