On 7 October 1849, Edgar Allan Poe died under mysterious circumstances from an unknown cause. A rather strange but fitting end considering that Poe is considered the father of the modern horror story and the father of the modern detective story. But much more, Poe was an editor, poet, critic, and author of critical theories that have influenced writing (especially the short story) worldwide. I have written several books on his poetry and critical theory and hope you might enjoy reading them this Spooky Season. To repeat the cliche, we shall see his like, "Nevermore".
