Going down. Two boats in the lock when most of the water has drained away. A bright spring day, blue sky and many are gathered around. Are they passengers? A development of relatively new buildings can be seen in the distance. Free at last as levels equalise, the boats prepare to leave the lock. The sun glints off the water of the canal as the boats may their way on to Uxbridge or further.

This photo could be considered misleading. In the background are two buildings. The front, white one, is the lock cottage, whereas the taller, stock brick building behind, is Stockers House (grade II listed), built for the City of London Corporation as a residence for its Collector of the Coal Dues on the Grand Junction Canal. To the left can be seen the lock gates and behind it the bridge to the house. In front, a mirror pond. The canal at this location has a distinctly rural feel as we pass Stockers Farm. Horses are grazing and one of them is about to have a drink at the canal.

I finally got down to see the newly opened stretch of the Thames path at Vauxhall that Patricia Stoughton kindly informed us of. It was a lovely day so I decided to test the zoom lens on my Pixel 10 phone on the Elizabeth tower. 📷

The canal has been following the River Gade, which has joined it. Now it meets the Chess and the Colne

It was built in 1817; the clock tower, bell and clock face are part of a previous timber mill dating back to 1750. In front of the clock tower stand two kilns, which were used for drying grain.

The world's largest surviving tidal mill is at Three Mills Island, on Bow Creek, London. The 18th century House Mill on the left is Grade I listed. Everything from flour to gunpowder to gin has been produced here.
