When I finally get myself my own spaceship, I want it to look like these vine sphinx moths that I sometimes see in my garden here in #Tarapoto #Peru. Such a cool paint job 🚀

The Naked Gun (2025) was bad. But it did have one positive: Pamela Anderson. Impressed by her performance, I watched The Last Showgirl. And damn, she's good! It's a great film, with top-tier performances from Anderson, Jamie Lee Curtis, Bautista and Shipka. Good movie poster too #movies #filmsky 📽️

If you're looking for a quirky folk horror movie to watch, you could do a lot worse than Unwelcome (2023). This is a film that it's best to go into blind, knowing as little about it is you can. Give it a go, it's a laugh. #horror #movies

Something I wrote for historyfacts.com. "What’s the Difference Between Homo Sapiens and Neanderthals?" #history
What's the Difference Between Homo Sapiens and Neanderthals?
When our prehistoric ancestors first emerged some 300,000 years ago, at least nine species of humans walked our planet. These included Homo sapiens (that’s us) as well as Homo habilis, Homo erectus, H...

Better Things (2008) is one of the bleakest films I've ever seen. I think it might also be a masterpiece of modern British cinema. I'm still letting it sink in, like when I saw Threads for the first time. It's unrelentingly sad, the melancholia is absolute, but it's also beautiful. #movies #cinema

Somnium is a strange one. Derivative, yes; disjointed, kind of. But watchable enough, and one of those movies where it's fun to spot where all the influences come from. In this case, director Racheal Cain is obviously a #DavidLynch fan, something she makes no attempt to hide. #movies #scifi

Black Phone 2 deserves more than 72% on Rotten Tomatoes. It's a really good film, with a powerhouse performance from Madeleine McGraw #Horror

So, The Age of Disclosure.... It was quite watchable for maybe 40 minutes, then someone casually mentioned how they'd seen alien bodies and the whole documentary degenerated into an extended Ancient Aliens episode, but with Marco Rubio.

Happy International Men's Day, men! Here's a poem I wrote for all of you:

I am man,
I have strong wrist,
Can open jam jar,
In single twist.

I avoided Rebel Moon because of the bad reviews, but decided to try the director's cut - all 6 hours and 17 minutes of it, across both films - and really enjoyed it. Yeah, it's epically ridiculous, but by the end I was sad that Snyder will likely never make the whole six-film saga. Anyone else?

The final story in FF#25 is "Margin Walker" by @tonydunnell.bsky.social. Tony's novelette follows a band of survivors, fighting back against the robot hive-mind that (mostly) eradicated humankind. It's an absolutely beautiful take on a familiar trope.

Some people say they can't stand so-called "influencers." Personally, I love them. They sit on my shelf, well worn and always ready.

My sci-fi story "Mantaro" will be published in Fission #5 by @bsfa.bsky.social. It's a story about coca, corruption and a particularly lethal autonomous quadruped robot roaming the VRAEM in Peru -- the world's densest area of cocaine production. Cover art by Elena Berri.

My sci-fi flash fiction story "The Shattered Lands" has been published by @foofarawpress.bsky.social. Time travel is a subject I normally avoid cos it's a head f**k. But here is my vision of a world where time travel has taken place - with good intentions but chaotic results.

"Extravagantly long shoes were favored by young men, some of whom would stand on street corners wiggling their shoes suggestively at people walking by."

Here's an article I wrote about the use of ridiculously pointy shoes in the Middle Ages.
Why Did Medieval People Wear Such Pointy Shoes?
If you could travel back in time to the medieval period, you’d soon see some fashion trends that are a far cry from today’s typical clothing. Depending on what century you arrived in — Europe’s mediev...

Upstream Color is an amazing film. It's experimental, for sure, but compared to director Shane Carruth's debut movie Primer, it is positively accessible.

There's something hideously ironic about seeing Musk wearing a Foundation t-shirt. Asimov would have loathed the man.

The Peruvian hairless dog, also known as the viringo, was the inspiration for my extraterrestrial emperor in "The Alien in My Bathtub," published in Escape Pod. I've met a lot of these dogs during my 15 or so years in Peru. This one is my favorite. He's called Humpty.
