Bright eyed despite the looming shadow. Lost at the intersection of economics, medicine, literature, and education.
On a positive note, there is a new(ish) mechanism that is not reliant on Fluoride for remineralization that instead relies on a hydroapatite peptide chain. Not widely implemented in the US and will be biased towards higher income demographics with regular in office care

The idea that eliminating refined carbohydrates will reduce cavities isn't wrong, but compliance with any such lifestyle modification trends towards 0%. Removing fluoride from the water supply and banning supplements isn't going to end well for anyone.

The international audience one encounters while trekking is an enlightening (and currently embarrassing) lens on how the USA is viewed. Charitably, we received more expressions of sympathy than indignation. We, of course, apologized for the impending self-inflicted economic downturn.

The Gestapo vibes of an anonymous Memo/Email threatening "adverse action" for failing to narc on "radical" beliefs escalated what I once viewed as fascist hyperbole from the left to today's reality. Wtf.

The Eikan-dō Zenrin-ji has relatively similar structures to many of Kyoto's myriad temples but the layout of the grounds is strikingly unique.

One perk of working for the government is that I maintain the illusion that I could retire and have a totally independent 2nd act. Urban planning would certainly be competing for my attention, fascinating!
Attention Street Design Nerds! One of the most intriguing cities in recent years at reconsidering streets for people instead of just for cars, Oslo Norway, has translated their great Street Design Manual into English and put it on-line. Worth digging into. #Oslo

Diagnostic adjuncts often improve sensitivity, but are less good at specificity. AI's pattern recognition and pixel/voxel level of discrimination and pattern recognition of shades of gray have tremendous potential and, anecdotally, pretty impressive results as a screening tool.

Living and practicing in this region (albeit with a very different patient population) makes this harrowing tale believable in an uncomfortable way, considering the human rights positions of our security partners.
When the physician Dwight Burdick first reviewed the Saudi princesses’ medical charts, he was dismayed to learn that they were being regularly dosed with Valium, Ativan, Xanax, and Ambien. “They’re chemically immobilizing them,” he recalled thinking.

Using AI to scour scientific literature (something AI *should* dominate), it fabricated sources and false information.

Thankfully, I chose a subject (dental resin cements) that I knew a lot about and cross referenced the alleged primary sources (to my dismay).

The Nakasendo Way was established in the 1600s as 1 of 2 major "highways" (wide enough for 2 abreast) connecting Kyoto to Edo (Tokyo) for Samurai and merchants.

This section in the Kiso Valley connected the ancient post villages of Yabuhara & Narai.

A happy coincidence:
1) i found out up to 80% of imported olive oil is cut/adulterated
2) there's an olive grove/mill down the road from my house that offers Community Milling
3) My workplace has some lovely olive trees

200+ lbs of olives later and I have a few fresh pressed gallons for the year
