What's happening at Western Illinois University is catastrophic as folks will discover when knowledge systems that librarians build, maintain, and explain inevitably fall apart. Can you have a university without librarians? I don't know, can you swim without water?

Looks like an incredible conference!
Conference putting the Shōsōin, an 8th-century Japanese treasure house, and its manuscripts and treasures in dialogue with work on Dunhuang and the Cairo Geniza. March 1-2 2025 in Princeton. We have $$ for grad students to attend; DM me for details. Spread the word.

I just got out from seeing #Moana2 with my Moana-obsessed three year old. Delighted to see that in the classic Disney movie opening sequence with the castle, there were tiny lanterns floating on the river below. I would love to learn more about the decision to add the lanterns.
