getting flattened again for the better part of the week reminds me that being able to do actual work on a tablet is something that i'm really grateful to have as an option, but that i also hate when it becomes a necessity

if you look at the page numbers in jaime hernandez' love & rockets comics from the past twenty-ish years, you can see he often does sequences of a few pages at a time, sometimes even a single -- and they stand on their own-- so that's a pretty nice method to build things that are still super complex

i don't ever start with an idea for a Bone-sized book, but if I come up with an eight page short story, I'll probably come up with five more stories that play off the first one. that can get out of hand but it sort of helps with focusing on one at a time, since they work on their own.

every idea always leads to 500 more, so it's a perpetual battle... but that's what i had to do over the past few years due to apocalyptic health issues-- just halve whatever plan i had, and halve it again about half a dozen more times until it gets to the scale where it's possible to tackle it

today has been nice, and i realized it was because i didn't have to look at any reference material all day. however complicated something may be, building a mental model and internalizing it is both faster and a million times more enjoyable than drawing with one eye permanently on a photo

a while back i came up with the smallest possible personal comics so i could do them in scraps of time between other things, or late at night, but i still manage to turn them into way too much work in novel ways, like making "kuleshov effect: the comic" out of the current one
