Mōrena whanāu,the calm water has tempted a couple to go for an early morning swim at Cheltenham Beach but with a strong westerly blowing we're in for some rough weather this afternoon. Kia pa to rā!

The front appears to have fallen off the Kiwi boat....

Top work from @rodemmerson.bsky.social in today's Herald.

Mōrena whanāu, well Rangitoto is reappearing but no sign of the sun, feeling a little blue perhaps? Kia pa to rā.

TIL that the Stones' masterpiece "Sympathy for the Devil" was inspired by Mikhail Bulgakov’s The Master and Margarita. And yeah it still sounds incredible (if I had to choose one Stones song this would be it).

Mōrena whanāu anyone in Tāmaki Makaurau seen the sun, or Rangitoto? It's all faded to grey, not that this dog on Cheltenham Beach is too concerned. Despite the mizzle it's still pretty sticky and likely to remain that way. Kia pa to rā!

Mōrena whanāu may your day start ad brightly as it has for this freedom camper at Torpedo Bay. Kia pa to rā!
February 11, 2026 at 6:27 PM
Mōrena whanāu the low cloud obscures the sunrise most mornings but provided a nice contrast today. A warm day ahead with an expected high of 28 here in Tāmaki Makaurau. Kia pa to rā!
February 10, 2026 at 6:52 PM
Mōrena whanāu beautiful start to the day here in Tāmaki Makaurau with some interesting looking high clouds. Kia pa to rā!
February 9, 2026 at 6:21 PM
Mōrena whanāu from the top of Maungauika the Hauraki Gulf looks like a millpond as the Waiheke car ferry passes Bean Rock Lighthouse. OTOH, this cyclist probably didn't have time to appreciate the view as he slogged up the final slopes. Kia pa to rā!

I highly recommend today's "More than a Feilding" from @davidslack.bsky.social - about his trip to Belfast where his guide was my brother John. David muses brilliantly on the meaning behind John's work. Also check out John's exhibition "I want to be nominated not kneecapped" in Katikati right now.

Mōrena whanāu pretty decent view from the top of Maungauika (which never seems to get easier to ride up) as the sun peeks through the morning cloud over the Bean Rock Lighthouse and Hauraki Gulf. Later on in my ride I got held up by an unusual traffic jam (a duck jam?). Kia pa to rā!

Mōrena whanāu, a surprisingly grey and cooler start to the day here in Tāmaki Makaurau, but it should brighten up later.

Meanwhile quick reminder that Terminal Tax for the 2025 year is due today.😕 Kia pa to rā!

Mōrena whanāu, as places of baptism go, Narrow Neck Beach at sunrise with Rangitoto as a backdrop will be hard to beat. Kia pa to rā o toitu Te Tiriti!

Copy of email sent to Winston Peters as Minister of Foreign Affairs regarding the Gaza cemetery vandalism. (Not my most rantiest work).

Mōrena whanāu got caught in a heavy rain shower this morning but looking East it was a much better start to what's expected to be a fine day across the motu. Rain also meant this beautiful big rainbow over Devonport's main street. Kia pa to rā!
February 4, 2026 at 7:01 PM
Mōrena whanāu, grey old start to the day here in Tāmaki Makaurau but mercifully cooler. OTOH, not sure why we need to call Linda for a twilight viewing particularly when sunset is way over to the west. 🤔 Kia pa to rā!
February 3, 2026 at 6:45 PM
Mōrena whanāu, vivid streaks in the sky just before sunrise were a sharp contrast to the ominous looking banks of dark cloud. Another warm sticky day ahead in Tāmaki Makaurau. ☹️Kia pa to rā!
February 2, 2026 at 7:22 PM
Mōrena whanāu no sunrise visible today because of all the low cloud which makes Rangitoto look like a slightly submerged whale. The grey skies belie the heat (a high of 29C is expected later here in Tāmaki Makaurau) and high humidity. Yuck. Kia pa to rā!

@rodemmerson.bsky.social on the mark, again.
January 31, 2026 at 6:40 PM
Mōrena whanāu a watery sunrise over the raft off Cheltenham Beach on what's a surprisingly grey and cooler morning here in Tāmaki Makaurau. Kia pa to rā!
January 31, 2026 at 6:29 PM
Mōrena whanāu, a cooler, less spectacular, start to the day this morning but still going to be a warm one here in Tāmaki Makaurau. Kia pa to rā!

🤣🤣🤣
January 30, 2026 at 2:03 AM
Mōrena whanāu, dramatic clouds today as a backdrop for a swimmer ("the water's warm")
and container ship. Looks like a cracker day ahead here in Tāmaki Makaurau. Kia pa to rā!
January 29, 2026 at 6:11 PM
Mōrena whanāu, stunning start to the day this morning. It's going to be a warm one here in Tāmaki Makaurau and high UV so remember to slip, slop, slap if you are out and about. Kia pa to rā!
