The Regulatory Impact Statement should be interesting reading.

Fucksake. It's quite clear now that they only looked at this benefit policy as political marketing and took no advice on who it would impact – which includes young people with serious health issues and disabilities. Just feckless and cynical. Shame on them. www.rnz.co.nz/news/politic...
Hundreds of teens with a health condition, disability may be cut from Jobseeker benefit
The government is ending Jobseeker payments to 18- and 19 year olds whose parents earn more than $65,000.

I am so done with this bullshit.

NZ First mingled with a crowd who set fire to the grounds of parliament.

The Greens marched with a hīkoi that did not leave a scrap of litter on those same grounds.

We are only just now reaching the point where our interest rates are stimulatory (I.e below the neutral rate). That means the cuts to date have likely done little to stimulate growth. It takes about a year for an interest rate cut to translate to real world

I don't believe it's true of many journalists but JMM was far too heavily invested in the narrative of Luxon's extraordinarily rapid ascent and lost objectivity. She did herself and us no favours.

all discourse aside, there is one machine with consciousness. it's printers. they are alive and conscious and they hate you and they'd take your arm clean off if you let them. never trust a printer.

Calling it hapless would be generous. IMO most people, including all of Cabinet it would appear, have no idea that the highest effective marginal tax rates in our system are way, way above 39% and frequently apply to people barely above minimum wage. This is by far the most extreme example.
trabaq.bsky.social
Quite probably. And just a reminder that 30% of all single parent families have an effective marginal tax rate of 50% or more. So let's just add to that problem eh?

Greta Thunberg is obviously a heroic person by any measure, she is quite obviously the kind of person who any decent society would hope they see their reflection in. It is remarkable how cruelty is so common place that people will openly hate her, and in really vicious ways, with no shame.

Downplaying an act of violence might have been the appropriate response from him, and might not be the appropriate in our current moment - I don't know - but the complete refusal to make political hay out of it is night and day from the current Government.

Then Green Party co-leader James Shaw was attacked while walking to work. He suffered a fractured eye ball and black eye, but said he still felt safe.

That's what de-escalation and kindness looks like #nzpol

Winston has had a secure taxpayer funded salary/expenses for 40+ years. He has a full fridge, a warm house & security. He has no excuse for being such a nasty, divisive, vile old man spewing discord, misinfo & hate about as well as dismantling health, safety&security for NZers & the environment.

Whether against Hana-Rawhiti Maipi-Clarke, Ghahraman, Ardern, other MPs, Wiles, Bloomfield, & others involved in pandemic response, transgender activists, drag queens, judges, lawyers or academics - effects of doxxing are inherently harmful, & often leads to kinetic violence or vandalism.

I remember when a protester punched the co-leader of the Greens in the face.

Hana Maipi-Clarke had her home broken into by a political stalker.

I recall VFF protesting outside Clarke's parents' home while Jacinda was on holiday.

I dont remember hearing about National's concerns back then??

Oh, you are SO full of shit.

Where were you when Peters played a starring role in a co-ordinated campaign against Benjamin Doyle?

Where were you when Seymour joked about blowing up government departments, or mounted another online attack at yet another critic? #nzpol

Damn. This is amazing. £325 per week, paid monthly, for 3 years - and the result was a profit for the Irish economy:

Post from Threads user rodneyowl: "Ireland has declared the Basic Income for Artists scheme permanent. This will be officially announced in tomorrow’s budget. Details to follow. Congratulations to all who fought for it and the present and future artists of all sorts in Ireland. That includes me 👌We’re just comin to the end of a 3 year pilot scheme. It’s been a roaring success. For every €1 paid out to the 2000 participants, the government got €1.46 back. Can’t argue with that. Other countries are already taking note."

Frankly unconscionable by Willis.

Also unsurprising.

Winston Peters? The same Winston Peters who walked among the 'protestors' at Parliament? That Winston Peters? The Winston Peters happy to use cookers to his own ends? He's moaning about political violence?

Why are we surprised? He's been putting the shite into Gobshite since 1978.
