Just got sent this from an article by Bryce Edwards. This is completely false, and he never once fact-checked it with me. My campaign was run by me and my small volunteer team. Comments like this reflect a tired mindset that assumes women can’t succeed in politics without a man pulling the strings.

But instead of leaving the conversation with nothing more than a partisan jab, Willis was happy to talk about the poll at quite a bit more length than other Government MPs, who offered the usual bromides about “tough times” and not paying any attention to a single poll.

“I'd like to see us a lot higher. The reason I'd like to see us a lot higher is because I believe that the policies that we as a party wish to pursue are going to be better for New Zealand, not just in the short term, but for the kind of New Zealand that we want to see in the future.”

She then launched into a list of broad appeal goals of hers, with language a million miles away from the usual prickly defensiveness practised by the Prime Minister.

“I want to see a New Zealand where more kids are learning to write and do maths - you need structured literacy and numeracy for that, you need our Government's reforms. I want to see a New Zealand where actually it's not just our ag sector growing, it's our tech sector growing. We need stable economic management for that to occur. I want to see overseas investment coming in to create jobs. You need our Government to get that,” Willis said.

“I think our party represents the values of most New Zealanders, and we need to be able to pursue our maximum policy agenda for New Zealand to do well in the world.”

There was nothing in this mini-speech, delivered just after the news that the Reserve Bank was cutting the Official Cash Rate by 50 basis points, that you could read as out and out disloyalty.

But after weeks of Luxon talking of “the two speed” economy, his deputy finally seemed to find the second speed he so struggles to shift into himself.

I'm not saying the Nats are primarily dog whistling the 14 words here, I think they are primarily trying to trigger online libs by referencing the 14 words. It's not less disgusting though.

I def do not believe the person who wrote it is unaware, is what I'm saying.
