Is it possible to use relative colors with CSS custom properties if you set your properties like so:

--color-primary-dark: 258deg 59% 59%;

If I try this, I'm not getting anything:
background-color: hsl(from var(--color-primary-dark) h s 10%);

I think it's because my custom property isn't hsl.

if the discussions and calls I've been having lately are any indication, we're about to see significant renewed focus on developer communities. reality is setting in and companies are realizing AI is not a miracle; it's a tool, and tools are only valuable if and when people use them to build things

Just tried using a Figma MCP server for the first time and it was quite cool. I designed a component in Figma and Copilot was able to create a code version of it that was fairly close, based on my existing design tokens.

I stumbled over this `css-extra` repo and now tell me that CSS isn't a programming language. 🫣😅

Are you the type of dev who just copies and pastes hex codes?

If so, I've written an article over at @piccalil.li just for you!

I take a look at some of the new CSS colour features that are most useful for those who don't really care about colours.

A pragmatic guide to modern CSS colours - part one
Whether you've got a firm grasp on modern CSS colour capabilities, or you're thinking 'I struggle to understand why I should use modern CSS colours at all', then the first part of this article series,...

This is a wonderful post explaining how to make animations feel "right" (or why sometimes you don't need to animate at all). 👇

I would ask that you watch it, and please SHARE it broadly and widely. Thank you! youtu.be/dVG8W-0p6vg #AI #Tech #TED

A while back, I was building a particle animation, and I ran into some weird issues. The particles were turning grey, mid-animation. And sometimes, they wouldn’t change color at all!

Turns out, there’s a pretty big limitation with color transitions. I share some solutions in my brand-new post!
Color Shifting in CSS • Josh W. Comeau
A little while ago, I was trying to animate an element’s background color, so that it cycled through the rainbow. Seems easy, but it turns out, browsers have a surprisingly big limitation when it comes to color processing! In this tutorial, we’ll dig into the issue, and I’ll share a couple of strategies you can use to work around this limitation.

Since @wesbos.com said that AI always "creates" stuff using purple, I can't unsee it. I've never noticed this before. So bizarre.

😆 maybe "yolo" should be (another) CSS unit:

width: 1yolo;
height: .5yolo;
font-size: .875yolo;
Why are there so many different CSS units?

:has() in CSS is so incredible. I was just writing a complicated thing to have an element try to mimic its container's size, etc. so I could mess with the layout for a specific configuration and then BAM :has(div) let me solve the whole problem by actually adjusting the container styles

love it
