He pours himself a vodka, and then another, and when he has nearly finished that glass, the door opens. Hollander has loosened his tie, but the rest of him is far too put together for how he makes Ilya feel.

"Take off your clothes," Ilya says.

Hollander obeys so well.

Ilya makes it through accepting his award and through the rest of the boring awards show, but he grows impatient with the after-party. He leaves as soon as he can acceptably disappear, going back to his room to wait for Hollander.

He hadn't meant to set Hollander off, but it gets him hot and bothered that Ilya shows up just on time. He can't help but be a little smug about it.

They do their little routine to get some laughs, Ilya snaps a series of selfies, and Hollander reads off the winner. They shake hands and go offstage.
December 8, 2025 at 2:55 AM
Ilya steps outside for a drag on a cigarette before they go onstage. It's just a little stagefright. Speaking in front of all those people under the bright lights is much worse than speaking in front of the crowd of sports journos in the locker room and at press conferences. Even if it's scripted.

He hasn't heard from Hollander since his congratulations text, but the two of them are presenting the sportsmanship award, and they're both in the running for MVP. He catches a glimpse of Hollander backstage in his tuxedo. He's put on summer weight, judging by the way it sits across his shoulders.

he is so happy and relaxed even when he is doing the Most Stressful things

It's not your fault!! I blame the bots

He goes home and does his best to avoid giving Andrei money or antagonizing his father. He doesn't really succeed at either, and it's a relief to fly back to the States for the stupid league awards.

He calls Svetlana, who comes over without any clothes on under her trench coat. He loses himself in her and sleeps soundly until morning.

They have locker clean out and end of year meetings that include the calendar of cup days. Ilya's will be in Moscow, and he makes Sveta promise to be there.

I've been blocking likes on my reply to you all morning 🫠
December 7, 2025 at 5:10 PM
By the time they hang up, he doesn't have the energy to call Andrei.
December 7, 2025 at 5:08 PM
He calls his father first, not sure whether he'll be praised for the win or excoriated for not doing it on Russian soil. His father is more lucid than the last time they spoke on the phone, but Ilya has to repeat himself three times before he seems to understand that he won the cup.

I think it's telling that my favorite parts of the episode were the Shane and Ilya bits at the start and Kip's dad, who was great and so far is winning the best parent award in this universe. Maybe he can adopt Ilya

I had to watch a not-insignificant portion of this episode with my hands over my eyes from second-hand embarrassment

You could take a page out of Secret Romantic Guesthouse's book and just have it be the same dog with no explanation. That dog was there, fully grown, for the prince's escape from the palace, and it's still there, ten years later, with no apparent aging

At some point he must have video-called Svetlana, because she has texted him a recording of himself yelling incomprehensibly. There are missed calls from his father and his brother, with voicemails he can't quite bring himself to listen to.
December 7, 2025 at 12:24 AM
He has a text message from Hollander telling him congratulations on the win, and to enjoy because there won't be another one. Ilya considers replying, but it's more fun to leave Hollander on read. They'll see each other at the MLH awards in a few weeks, anyway. He can lord it over Hollander then.

Ilya wakes from the three-day bender with a post-parade sunburn and the worst hangover he's ever had (and the only one he'll admit to - Russians don't get hangovers, fuck you, Marleau). He showers the stink of days-old vodka away and starts to feel vaguely human again around sunset.

IKR. This is torture!! How did we do this before streaming! I saw someone who was like "I am enjoying watching this week-to-week but oh my god I wanna binge it" 😂

Ilya Rozanov is not a superstitious man, but his teammates are. He can feel victory humming under his skin through the entire game. He is hyper-aware of it, as if time has slowed down so he can take in everything. He scores two goals, including the game winner, and that's it.

They've won.
