Maybe you like some of them, too. So now I'm selling them. Mostly as stickers or buttons for now, but I'm happy to put a bunch together into a single print--let me know if there's a specific set you're interested in. transited.redbubble.com

(for $11B, I think you could do this extension, electrify and almost entirely double-track SMART, and maybe even get it across the Golden Gate?)

If we're really open to spending $11B to elevate transportation infrastructure susceptible to sea level rise, can I interest Caltrans in 8 more miles of SMART?
A map showing how SMART could continue south from Larkspur all the way to the Sausalito ferry via the old Southern Pacific ROW. The section from Blithedale to Manzanita is circled, as it's currently at sea level and occasionally floods in very high tides.

If you're wondering how TRB's strategy of "burn it all to the ground and start over" strategy is going, submissions were down almost 20% this year

Earnest answer: a lot of punt return schemes assume the LS isn't much of an athlete and so give them a free release. Even untouched, returners should be able to make them miss

Long snappers can only spat their cleats if they can make plays like this. (You'll be shocked to learn I never spatted my cleats.)

The best opportunity to fix this right now is for people to comment on the MASCOTS plan about how the 32 minute SMART frequency is squandering all the value the other agencies are creating by aligning routes and schedules.

For reference, here's Miller Ave today
Google Street view of Miller avenue in mill valley, with 2 lanes, a bike lane, and parking in each direction, plus a very wide grassy median.

Miller Ave could be the new Rosslyn-Ballston corridor but Marin is full of cowards*

cities are good. d.c. is good. we should be a state. being one would not necessarily prevent anything that is happening, but what is happening is a sharp reminder that we aren't. (i was angrier about the budget.) we are not a state because of an inherent fear of ~the urban other.

If it doesn’t rain for 17 minutes after the 9th inning on November 1, 2016 and the Tribe rides their momentum to beat the Cubs and send Ohioans (and Pirates fans overdosing on schadenfreude) into a celebratory bender, who knows how those two states go a week later

Denver (RTD) and San Jose (VTA) are both: front door on buses, all-door on light rail. I think Sac is, too
transited.bsky.social
I'd also settle for timed connections between Marin Transit Rt 17, GGT 130, and the Sausalito Ferry, but that won't happen until every operator involved in MASCOTS is consolidated into a single agency 🫠 #thebigsync
transited.bsky.social
Personally, I wouldn't hate to see the commute-only 114 replaced by all-day 130 service: extending hourly service on the 130 only requires 2 buses, while the 114 uses 5.
transited.bsky.social
Smaller issue with the GGT service: by truncating 130 in Sausalito and eliminating 150, there will only be all-day service between SF and Marin City or San Rafael. If you get on in the morning at a US101 bus pad in Marin County, you're at the mercy of a transfer to Marin Transit to get home midday
transited.bsky.social
The biggest issue here is that the whole plan is predicated on the idea that non-SF riders north of San Rafael can use SMART + local transit. BUT! Local transit is on 30/60-minute headways, and SMART (until it builds a few more sidings) is stuck at 32/64 minutes. A disaster for connectivity.
transited.bsky.social
All this is going to change soon though, thanks to MASCOTS (Marin Sonoma Coordinated Transit Service Plan). Love the acronym, dread the resulting service. Made a map for that, too, because GGT hasn't done one themselves.

Been here 4 months, high time to make a map. The Golden Gate Bridge is great... @goldengate.org Transit, less so. Still, fun to play around with an isometric design and be artsy with the bridge and the Ferry Building.
