Can't even begin with what a box of LA LUCHA: LATIN AMERICAN FEMINISM TODAY means. From a pre-pandemic lunch with @charcopress.com to a just-announced @englishpen.bsky.social award, it's been amazing to work on this outstanding collection from 30 brilliant women writers & their talented translators.

A PEN Presents winner, and now an #InternationalBooker2025 shortlistee! Banu Mushtaq's HEART LAMP is a collection of quietly powerful short stories about women's lives in a bold & memorable translation by Deepa Bhasthi, pb. @andotherstories.bsky.social. Especially loved "Be a Woman Once, Oh Lord!"

Raced through UN AMOR by Sara Mesa (tr. Katie Whittemore, pb. Peirene Press): a tense novella of everyday tragedies in which a transaction leads to an obsession and then an unravelling in the small-town community of La Escapa. Loved it. #Recommended

I loved Gaëlle Bélem's THERE'S A MONSTER BEHIND THE DOOR when I read it in French last year. Excited to see it published by @bullaunpress.bsky.social in a translation by Karen Fleetwood & Laëtitia Saint-Loubert that fizzes with all the verve and fury of the original. #InternationalBooker2025

Almost exactly 7 years ago my first tentative tweet was about Han Kang's THE VEGETARIAN, tr. Deborah Smith.

As I start from zero again, it feels only fitting that my first post over here comes as I'm reading Han's WE DO NOT PART, tr. e. yaewon and Paige Aniyah Morris.

More soon...
