It's not as financially prohibitive as you think. We will be able to afford it with the support of users who are in the position to contribute, as well as other funding sources.

TL; DR
In the next 5 business days you should be able to go to Link's page on blacksky.community and see his posts and he'll be able to post but people using the bsky mobile apps won't see it.
After that we'll get Blacksky-only posts up.
After that we can talk about purging bsky mod tools

as long as you still have access to the e-mail you signed up with, you should be fine.

however, we do some light vetting based on people's handles, so please DM us with your handle update (either in relation to your e-mail you signed up with, or your prior handle you signed up with)

Everything will show up by default now anyways, but there are extra steps to *ensure* that if Bluesky starts banning independent PDSes from their Relays, that we can stand up our own Relays and talk to each other.

It's a progressive process of getting more and more independent from Bluesky PBC.

Phase 1 was PDS, and now we're under a lot of pressure to get Phase 2 (appview frontend + backend) up and running ASAP due to how material conditions have changed.

It was always on the roadmap, we just didn't expect it to be needed so soon.

there is going to be a Eurosky as well, which might have more capacity for moderating in a wider variety of languages. Stay tuned for updates from that project. (We will likely federate with them as well!)

Currently we don't have our own Appview, but our Phase 2 plan was to stand up our own Appview front-end AND back-end, so yes and no.

Right now, we only have the PDS, but work on the Appview has already begun!

When it's ready for users, NO, it won't be an issue because we'll have our own backend!

They were going to be Phase 2 and Phase 3 respectively, but due to how the ecosystem is rapidly evolving, we're scaling up a bit and tackling those simultaneously now as we wrap up Phase 1 (PDS).

Our roadmap has obviously shifted a bit with the changing material conditions. Ty for asking!

Steps:
- Login with Bsky credentials
- Backup Repo (saves a .car file of posts)
- Backup Media (saves media)

- Community Guidelines Draft
- Animatic explaining Migration in simple terms
- Invites to start rolling out in waves

We aren't going to put a date on this though, because it's a matter of "when it's ready" and the team has confidence in it.
