Indifferent to the blood and gore, Byleth knelt beside him. Dimitri's head was half-turned toward her, the elegant lines of his face visible even in the pale light of dawn.
She studied him carefully, in a way she never could before. He was older than the last time she'd seen him, and yet still unbearably young in death.
He would have been a good king in a peaceful world. Byleth had barely known him, but she knew that to be true.
