Those video rental stores never saw it coming. Before DVDs, they rented tapes and charged you if you didn’t rewind before returning.

In the late 1990s I checked out a DVD from the video store where I was a regular customer. Went on vacation and forgot about it. When I finally took it back, they charged me $32 late fee and wouldn’t reconsider.

I signed up for this new Netflix thing and never went back.
