One of the great pleasures of having thoughtful teenagers is being able to introduce them to the great films of the last half-century or so. Watching them enjoy early Coen brothers films has been an utter delight.

I've read many business books over the years, and one connecting thread in them is the implicit assumption that the reader is very financially successful and thus has no personal worries. Thus, the advice is impractical to many readers who can't afford the risk of "radical candor," etc.

I saw Van Gogh's Bedroom in Arles - www.vangoghmuseum.nl/en/collectio... - at a moment in my life when I needed to see it, a moment when I felt my life's trajectory changing in a way that I didn't want. I stared at it for a good thirty minutes and came away feeling that my ordinary life was okay.
