Climate change is shifting where animals cross roadways. By modelling future temperature, rain, plant cover, and land use, we can identify locations used now and into the future.

Huge thanks to @science.nature.org for funding this important work, collaboration with @nature.org colleagues, and partnership from @uidaho.bsky.social faculty — we’re excited to see where this research leads!

We're surveying the aftermath of last fall’s Glendale Fire to better understand how upland and riparian restoration influence wildfire severity. Our goal? To promote durable and effective restoration strategies for sagebrush ecosystems across the West.

What a beautiful day in the field last week at Rinker Rock Creek Ranch, kicking off a new research project with ‪@uidaho.bsky.social‬ colleagues.

It's all in here! As we continue to increase recreation on public lands, we offer practical guidance for planning to co-exist with the wildlife reliant on these areas. Many thanks to a dedicated team of co-authors for seeing this one through to publication.

And, there's so much more in this paper than that! Want a synthesis on how ungulates respond to recreation? Want handy tables breaking down the current literature by ungulate species and type of recreation? Want details on how and why season matters? Want a discussion of future research directions?

I am so happy to share this new paper I co-wrote with colleagues at the USGS. It's a guide to predicting how nonmotorized recreation like hiking, skiing, mountain biking, etc. affects ungulates (hoofed mammals like deer, elk, moose, and pronghorn) to inform NEPA analyses. doi.org/10.3133/sir2...

Thrilled to share that our #WAPredatorPreyProject paper evaluating how elk navigate risk from wolves, cougars, and humans is on its way to publication in Ecology. Co-authored with great collaborators from the University of WA, WA dept. of Fish and Wildlife, and the Spokane Tribe.

Fun to share research in a new format. I recently chatted with John Calfa & Stephen Rivera of the Wolf Connection Podcast about the #WAPredatorPreyProject on Episode 147. Give it a listen here!
