Don’t know about you. But I am, to paraphrase a pop musician, definitely the problem.

NCTM is next week and if you pay me a cool $20 I'll get those slides nice and fixed up for you

Would you pay for a service where I look at your upcoming conference slides and give them a glow up?

i love that i've been gotten by a thing I am vaguely aware of and do not understand at all

6th and 7th. Right? My younger one is class of 2025 and it was 7th and 8th for her. Those were tough years to be apart from your peers!

lol I am not! That would probably have been a slightly different subtweet

It’s a "crisis" when immigrants "take jobs away", but "innovation" when machines do. Funny.

Ok it's Prime Day or whatever and Amazon is gross but also if we are ordering stuff there WHY NOT ADD ON A PREORDER OF MY JUSTICE-FOCUSED BOOK. It's broadly accessible and has a positive message and will make you feel better when it finally ships.

Shamelessly,
Love,
Chad

OK. Last thing here. While you're cutting paper (or looking for triangles or whatever), a super duper useful thing to do is provide lots of variation, and talk about. I haven't read Mouse Shapes in a while, so I don't recall whether it has more than equilateral triangles.

I was in an early childhood math session at a practitioner conference a little while back, and the presenter was saying that "young children do not learn from logic; they learn from hands-on experience". That is not really true.

Subway maps! YES!!! Paths, and directions along them, are an important early math idea! And yeah, counting triangles is a bit of an older thing. But "let's find some triangles while we're out today" is a great 3yo adaptation

And then here's a collection—with mentions of the age group—that may give you some ideas about how to extend the conversation.

Love that (and can also recommend Mouse Count as a fab and lovely book)!

At this age, composing and decomposing shapes is all kinds of fun. Cutting and gluing paper is a great way to explore that!

Um… this is the conversation I was built for. Do you want the deep dive? (Also, plz share where that review is from!)

Oh! And some with an 18-egg carton might make for a nice denominator shift, plus an additional unit.

3 eggs are 1/4 dozen, but 1/6 of the carton
triangleman.bsky.social
Also do you know about bulk egg cartons, which often carry the label 2 1/2 dozen?

Europe and parts of Asia have decimal egg cartons
