11 days ago I scribbled some disjointed thoughts about what a year of photographing the men of ICE felt like.

Most of it isn't worth sharing, but these lines here—yeah. I guess. Yeah.

All I can say this afternoon is God will know what to do with them.
Doing this day in and day out, I often found myself searching for glimpses of humanity in them—not because they deserve it, or because I think humanizing them is a worthy task. I think it's because I've convinced myself if I can catch just one expression, one momentary shift or softening, it'll prove...something. It'll prove we can defeat them, we can get them to walk away from all of this. It'll prove there's a little boy inside that's still reachable. Anyway, I never actually saw that softening from any of them. I'm not sure I captured a single frame that shows it. Instead I photographed as they hurled insults, taunted people, shot me in the face, and hunted immigrants for sport, basically. 2025 was a year I looked the worst of humanity in the face. But as I've spent the last five facing off with cops and fascists in the streets, it wasn't my first time doing so. The same awfulness I watched the feds exhibit is the same shit I've seen from CPD and other agencies. There's nothing to humanize about it because to work these jobs requires you to leave your humanity at the door. It's not lost on me either how these are mostly/all men represented here. What is an invading force but the ultimate manifestation of unrestrained misogyny? We know who's doing most of this violence, and we should name that. In 2026 I will look these soulless, twisted men in the face again and laugh because they didn't kill me or break me.
