Oomfie mentioned he wished brio had a way to disable parenting of bones when you're posing and I realized this is information not a lot of people know. But if you select the bone you want, click on the Propagate icon and then disable Position and Rotation, it is no longer parented.

it's natural! since it's in the longer part of his hair, I like to view it as his hair getting bleached by constant sun exposure and just the harsher conditions at sea :)
