It's a good read; very different from The Martian. Can't decide whether it's a good reflection of human nature. I fear that a film version wouldn't have the same impact.

Still not as big as his ego

So she can't see bright yellow painted poles from her elevated driving position? What chance would a small child stand. I'll bet she can't see cyclists, either.
Absolutely no sympathy for her. Perhaps some re-education is needed.

Greed is a form of mental illness. If you have everything you NEED but aren't happy with it, then you'll never be happy, however much more you acquire.

Whereas lying in a newspaper is absolutely fine and normal.
At least, if you're the Mail, Sun, Torygraph, etc.

Perhaps he should downsize to a more practical property at around £1m and invest the difference in a pension pot; stocks and shares ISA and so on. Over the next 10 years, that should do nicely.
But then there wouldn't be this faux outrage for the Torygraph to publish 🙄

There's more in this thread, but significantly...

Drying hotspots are emerging across the Middle East, Asia, South America, along the US west coast + swathes of Canada, with Greenland, Iceland + Svalbard showing dramatic drying trends, + the Iranian government contemplating evacuating Tehran due to water shortage.

We'll also see more South to North migration as areas dry out, and water becomes scarce.

This news is a total disaster for the NHS, and the economy as a whole. It is shameful that 60 years after the “end of empire” the UK still clings to racist exceptionalism and completely fails to acknowledge that immigrants (like my family) are why the UK became the 5th largest economy in the world…

Office of Budget... What? 😂

Sounds as though it's a good budget, then 😁

Just in time for the Christmas shutdown 🙄

Exactly this - the money should have been reinvested in more housing, but councils weren't allowed to do so.
November 26, 2025 at 5:42 PM
Yes, but they'd raise it enough to cover all of the increase.
November 26, 2025 at 5:42 PM
Yep; not earth shattering. But we do need more council houses... Right To Buy was a dreadful policy as it depleted the social housing stock.

A landlord group that I'm on is upset about the extra 2% tax on rental income; the fear is that this will simply be passed to tenants and more landlords will sell up, also putting rents up.
We need more council houses so that people can still get somewhere to rent.
