MELIA has guarding issues. Both with food & toys. She was abandoned by her "family" in their apartment. No food/water. Starving! She was rescued and put into foster. The foster being inexperienced with guarding she bit them. Melia will learn in her forever home she will never starve again. 👇

New York. About Melia Melia is a sensitive 3-year-old female dog who arrived at the shelter in October 2022 after being found abandoned in an empty apartment. Despite being briefly reclaimed and fostered, she has been returned to the shelter multiple times and has spent over 800 days there as of late 2025. Personality: Melia has a gentle spirit and thrives outside the stressful kennel environment, enjoying peaceful walks and quiet companionship with people she trusts. She is a bit nervous and needs a patient home that can help her learn to feel safe. Ideal Home: She requires a calm, low-traffic, adult-only home with no other dogs. An experienced adopter who understands that building trust takes time is essential for her success.
