There was a massive fire on Chicago’s far north side (West Ridge) this morning, w/multiple fatalities. The National Guard is trained to help communities after a disaster, but they can’t now, even though they’re already here, because residents would be too rightfully terrified of them.

The States of Iowa, Montana, Oklahoma, South Carolina and 14 additional States
respectfully move for leave to submit the attached amicus curiae brief in support of Defendants
and their opposition to Plaintiffs’ requested temporary restraining order and preliminary
injunction. Proposed amici are States with a vested interest in federalism, the relationship between
States and the federal government, and deploying the National Guard. We also each have a vital
interest in supporting the President and Congress in enacting and enforcing valid immigration
laws. Every State has a responsibility to protect our citizens.
The federalization of States’ National Guard units is a matter of profound public
importance, as it directly implicates the delicate balance of power between state and federal
governments—a true cornerstone of Federalism. States generally maintain authority over their
National Guard units, allowing governors to deploy them for state-specific needs, such as disaster

Also, I'm mid-high confident that there is a troll/bot campaign designed to get leftist and progressive Chicagoans to turn on Johnson and Pritzker. Yes, they have a lot to answer for, and we should push, but think about who it benefits and who would replace them if they were gone. Remember Vallas?

I love Japan, but when I visited, I was groped twice during one vacation. They put sexual harassment and assault 100% on women victims to manage. You didn't get on the women-only train car? You got on an escalator with a skirt on? Your fault.

ICE is doing a hell of a lot of harm in the Chicago area *right now.* I don’t mean to trivialize the national guard stuff, it absolutely is an irresponsible escalation, but the guard-centric convo around this really does understate what’s going on without any guardsmen.

Today, at the pumpkin patch, there was a guy whose job was basically Pumpkin Hype Man. After driving people to the u-pick area, he just hung out, complimenting people's pumpkins and validating their choices. This tactic worked on me like a CHARM.

Apple picking outing today turned into 6 hours picking apples, berries, peppers, zucchini, pumpkins, and more, plus lunch, hayrides, and multiple rounds of sweet treats. If I must live in a federally occupied city, I am going to shamelessly overindulge in whatever delights remain.

I hate to be this person, but Lincoln Square Apple Fest either needs more space with more food booths, or they need to start capping attendance. It's wild to collect money to let people into a shoulder-to-shoulder crush where most things are sold out and everything else is a block-long line.

Chicago is the greatest city in the world and what’s happening there is making my body physically hot and sore with rage. Every rich dentist in the Ohio exurbs with a barely touched jet ski voted for this because they led poor lives that are now nearly over. Chicago will outlast your boring anger.
