This was not a difficult question.

Q: Do you agree that the mayor of Chicago and governor of Illinois should be in prison?

MIKE JOHNSON: Should they be in prison? I'm not the attorney general. I'm not following the day to day on that

I hate to keep picking on The Hub, but there is such a bizarre, mythologized version of Alberta’s oil history as purely free-market triumph at play here - omitting everything from AOSTRA to to TMX, with lots in between (and even before). thehub.ca/2025/10/07/r...
Rudyard Griffiths and Sean Speer: Alberta may gain a pipeline—but what would it lose?

Alberta tends to have hyperbole when it comes to our "pulled ourselves up by the bootstraps" rhetoric. The then "tar sands", now "oil sands' were floundering 50 years ago and were bailed out by no less than...Alberta, Ontario, and [yes for real] Federal tax dollars. www.nytimes.com/1975/02/05/a...

The City of Calgary says there's a nearly half-billion-dollar gap in funding due to provincial or federal offloading of responsibilities. Here's how mayoral candidates would address it. #yyc #calgary #yycvote

The #UCP needs to address more than staffing numbers to solve the crisis.

"You can't just say we're going to magically make 5,000 teachers appear," said Jason Foster of Athabasca University. "You also need to say, 'What are the kinds of conditions those teachers are going to come & work in?'"
trueoak.bsky.social
This is the most important point. The UCP can promise more teachers but how and when. What’s the plan to educate, attract and retain teachers?
Are they anticipating teachers through immigration? I seem to remember them wanting to reduce immigration.

I’m thankful we have the pragmatic Carney as PM instead of whatever Poilierve is.
The one thing Carney needs to stand firm on is no movement on the Alberta pipe dream until there is a proper proposal with environmental reviews and indigenous buy in.

Eby is completely correct. She wants agreement on a project that’s just a concept of a plan.
@mark-carney.bsky.social MUST push back on Smith’s extortion threats until she has her pipeline proposal submitted that will fail because it will depend on eradicating environmental laws.

But apparently the Smith Government can’t find enough money to fund education properly.

Alberta Premier Danielle Smith today called B.C. Premier David Eby's rejection of her taxpayer funded pipeline proposal (not actually a pipeline)...

"Un-Canadian and Unconstitutional"

I see from CNN that Canada’s economy is in “crisis”.

A word of unsolicited advice to everyone: don’t believe a single word any US media says about Canada. None. They don’t know shit about us and they don’t care.

It’s in the US’ interest to describe us as being in crisis. Not ours.
trueoak.bsky.social
CNN should check on the economy on the other side of the border.
While they’re at it, they may also want to check on how that authoritarian thing is playing out down there.

When challenged on her pipeline with the reality that First Nations leaders in the area of her proposed pipeline have already categorically rejected it...

Smith responded saying that she's already picked the First Nations groups she wants to listen to.

Trump is likely willing to give a bit on steel and aluminum tariffs because he’s getting told how much it’s really hurting US manufacturing.

The damage Trump is inflicting on the US economy is the leverage we need.
Too bad Carney still needs to coddle the toddler.

The #UCP just don’t get it.
Can’t just make shit up.
“We’ll get 3,000 teachers! Not good enough? We’ll get 5,000!”
Where will they come from and what is encouraging them to come to #Alberta?
Unless there’s a plan they may as well promise rainbows & unicorns!

When confronted on her legislation making it easier for separatists to create instability...

Smith instead disavowed separatism, spun the story to the #ForeverCanadian movement with @lukaszukab.bsky.social and then blamed Trudeau.
