I haven’t seen the news hit any major outlets yet, but the here’s primary source reporting from the MIT Coalition Against Apartheid’s IG account, as well as admin contact info (images of the post below).

Today in my AI and music class, we started digging into the nuts and bolts of neural networks, and I introduced hidden layers using the scene from Severance where Helly finds scary numbers for the first time (I also told them that the work of hidden layers is Mysterious and Important, just like MDR)

This morning’s #piptalk features a rare full-on meow cameo from Madame Marie Purrie:

Found the music21 shirt (sadly too tight post-PhD to responsibly wear in professional settings 😂); Echo Nest shirt still MIA

A year earlier, they had posted this hamfisted, typo-filled prohibition on using content to “train machine learning or AI model” (sic), which added to the confusion, because while ML is an approach to AI, they don’t define the others (which could arguably be literally any computational approach?)

Okay I’m bringing these back because we all need some positivity. Here’s your morning #piptalk from Dr. Fuzz Aldrin, with bonus shade from Madame Marie Purrie (sound up for pips!):

Neither of my cats (who were adopted when I lived in Florida) had seen snow before a few weeks ago, and I don’t think I’ll ever get tired of watching them watch the flakes out the window 🥹 (especially this darling goblin, who almost died two weeks ago, hence her very punk rock haircut)

Full house for our second day of auditions this year (feat. a performance by our low brass ensemble)! Really excited about growing the program in this beautiful new building!

If you happen to need it today, I give you this picture of Madame adopting the most beautifully round loaf configuration

Update on the Dean Snowfield AI slop situation: so the IG profile for Dean Snowfield is private, and I requested to follow it yesterday. My request was apparently denied, but then the account liked one of my IG posts a few minutes ago? So I do think there’s a human actively monitoring the account.

What DID show up, however, was an address, which we can't see on the actual web page: 1920 McKinney Ave, Floor 7, Dallas, TX 75201. I looked that address up, and guess what it is? A WeWork.

I reloaded the page and retried; same thing. So I inspected the page source to see if there was something wrong with the javascript or if there was an email address that it was supposed to mail to. Another funny thing happened: the onClick event handler does nothing. There's no mailto anywhere.

It only has two pages, Home and Contact. So I try to Contact them, and began writing the following in the form. However, when I clicked "send," a funny thing happened: nothing.

I've done a bit more digging on the artists mentioned in the latter half of the article to see what labels they're associated with, and Apple Music shows that Dean Snowfield's EP, A Nostalgic Noel, is copyrighted by something called Eleven-A. So I looked up Eleven-A.

So, so many updates to post from the past few weeks, but in the meantime, here’s a #piptalk from the one-and-only Dr. Fuzz Aldrin:

A quality #piptalk (plus two almost-meows!) from Dr. Fuzz Aldrin for your Monday morning:

No meow attempts during Dr. Aldrin’s #piptalk this morning; I think he heard about recent administration picks and is nearly speechless

As promised, here’s this morning’s #piptalk from Dr. Fuzz Aldrin:

Okay here’s a fun series I’ll start: in Jan, I adopted a feral cat from UF’s campus who became too attached to humans, which put him in danger (he was following people to their cars, etc). Apparently cats raised around other cats don’t learn to meow, so he only pips. But he’s learning! #piptalk

Also, here’s the shower curtain for any interested parties (I would shoutout the maker, but I bought it online ages ago and have no idea if exists for purchase anywhere?):

Wow, seems like a lot of new folks have migrated from the hellsite (either that, or the algorithm is funneling folks my way), but hello new (or probably former) followers! I don’t post much on microblogging platforms anymore because I am way too hosed with work, but here’s a pic of one of my cats.

Heading home after my 1st NeurIPS, and I have *a lot* of thoughts. But first, I wanted to say that I had a very positive experience, and thank everyone who worked hard to make women feel welcome. I know it hasn’t always been this way (and there is a long way to go for others) but I had a great time.
