Everyone deserves to feel safe on the TTC.

That means a care-based, non-enforcement approach to safety.

That's why we're happy to see a plan to roll-out Toronto Community Crisis Workers on the subway!

City Council is voting on this plan tomorrow - send a message: ttcriders.ca/tccs

the fact that 19 people took significant time out of their day to come speak on this, many of whom lugged around big homemade wayfinding signs to city hall, is a testament to how much torontonians care for + want to see a better city

i made a rare city hall appearance today to talk about the value of wayfinding and to shine light on the lacking state of TTC bus stop signs.

a group of us successfully pushed the TTC board to advance the agency's first-ever wayfinding strategy! 🚏

Last up is Chloe, one of the co-leads of our wayfinding campaign! She also supports the item and urges the board to vote for it!

Naomi and Natalie are up next - both volunteers behind the King Street wayfinding makeover. They present some of the beautiful signage that they used, and urge for alphanumeric exit signage to make it quick and easy to find your way in and out of transit!

Alex Salton is up next and asks for the approval of the wayfinding strategy. He urges for many specific improvements to digital and physical wayfinding and information to get Toronto caught up with other cities.

Rayah Ladak is up next, and she urges for this wayfinding strategy.

She tells a story of taking her Grandmother on Line 2, and confusing the Kennedy and Kipling trains because there was no westbound or eastbound signage. As a result, her 84-year old grandma had to climb back up the stairs - tiring!

Satadru is up! Satadru raises the issue of missing signs at Bloor GO - there are no signs pointing to Bloor Street! Without good signage, it's difficult to transfer to Dundas West Station. Additionally, the Bloor Street exit is close to many medical facilities. He urges for a new wayfinding standard

Brice is up next - Brice is one of the designers behind TTCriders King Street wayfinding makeover. For his undergrad, his main thesis project was digital wayfinding for Metrolinx. The number one comment he got on his thesis? The TTC needs this - hundreds of people have stories of getting lost.

Adam Cohoon is up next. Adam urges for a wayfinding strategy, with robust consultation with riders of all abilities to ensure the standard is rock-solid. Adam mentions that this is a popular issue and many in the community want this.
ttcriders.bsky.social
Jennifer Conroy is up next - she urges the TTC to adopt this wayfinding strategy and enter the digital age so that it can be more accessible to all. She urges for accessibility improvements like signage with larger text sizes so it's easier to read.

Andrew and August went together because we’re running out of time! Andrew thanked the TTCriders team for making wayfinding a priority, August talked about their experience in Vancouver and how much better their wayfinding is in general.

Azad tells a story of helping someone utterly confounded by our transit system at Bathurst station and how it could be so much better. Supports a wayfinding strategy too!
ttcriders.bsky.social
It’s Nicholas! He also supports better wayfinding and thanks the board for taking this step, urging their support.
ttcriders.bsky.social
Ahmed has a very recent story of inaccurate information as recently as this weekend at Nuit Blanche. Says the wayfinding strategy is key to making the TTC the world class system it deserves to be.

GO JOE! Who outs himself as the architect of the TTCriders wayfinding action at King Station back in April. Joe has been co-leading the charge witn us for better signage, and honestly this strategy wouldn’t be happening without his work.

We have arrived at way finding! After a staff presentation on the proposed strategy, we’re off to the races of deputations! Up first is Adam Rogers whi says it’s great but too slow, let’s get exit numbers now as a first step.

Great question to the CEO from Deputy Mayor Malik about safety on the TTC, which despite some recent fear mongering, is getting better. More importantly the public is starting to FEEL safer on transit. The CEO confirms this is the case.

There’s still work to be done but we’re on the right track.

We’re in 😎

A couple items before we get to wayfinding! Including the monthly repot from the CEO, this one is focused on bus metrics.

Right now we are very patiently waiting for a closed in camera session to finish. They need to wrap up today by 4:30 sooooo hopefully we get in there soon.

We’re at the TTC board meeting to speak in favour of their wayfinding strategy! Signage on transit isn’t the best and we are thrilled to see a complete overhaul of the system being considered. Follow along here for updates.
